Spring Cleaning Products Every Home Should Have
Getting ready for spring cleaning? Not only should you check out my detailed guide on how to do it right , but you should also use it as an opportunity to make sure your cleaning supply stock is up to the task. Below I’ve put together my recommendations for the best and most useful cleaning products you should have on hand, but first, a little background.
Start by considering storage space
As I’ve explained before , one of the most important elements of any cleaning kit is how you store it. And the two most important rules to remember are that similar items should be classified together, and that everything you own should have a specific place. This usually means ditching all the Pine Sol, Windex, Clorox and Mr. Clean under the sink, but that doesn’t mean it’s convenient when you need to use one in particular, let alone carry them around all the rooms that need cleaning.
If you have the space for it, a rolling cart solves these problems while keeping everything accessible and mobile. I recommend one with a handle and multiple tiers, like this one , which costs about $30.
Be frugal when you can, but some things are worth splurging on.
There are some basic products that can be purchased cheaply, such as double strength cleaning solutions , but keep in mind that in some cases the extra cost is worth it. For example, my favorite vacuum cleaner is the Bissell CrossWave OmniForce . It costs about $300, more expensive than some budget vacuums, but for me it’s worth it because it can serve as both a vacuum cleaner and a mop. This cuts cleaning time in half and keeps carpets and hardwood floors looking pristine.
Consider your needs
I’m a die-hard Fabuloso girl, but you may prefer Clorox or Lysol. Your kitchen may have more blinds than curtains, more leather upholstery than fabric, or more granite than stainless steel. I will recommend solutions for all of these problems, but keep in mind that different homes have different needs.
