We Finally Know How Much the Nintendo Switch 2 (and Its Games) Will Cost

Nintendo has never been known for high-end hardware, but that certainly hasn’t hurt its bottom line, especially in the Switch era. The company’s decision to use more core components for the Switch back in 2017 helped keep the console cheaper than any of its competitors. It’s hard to get too hung up on the lack of 4K 60fps support when you can play the latest Zelda on a handheld device that can cost less than $200 .

But now, a new Switch has appeared , and with it a new price. The Switch 2 is indeed a more powerful version of the Switch and comes with a number of benefits: a larger 1080p HDR display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a fan-equipped dock to support 4K gameplay at 60fps, magnetic Joy-Cons with “mouse mode” for desktop controls, and other nice perks. Of course, Nintendo isn’t giving away these perks for free, or offering the Switch 2 for the same price as the Switch 1. If you want to order the latest Nintendo console , you’ll have to pay more—for everything.

How much does Switch 2 cost?

The Switch 2 retails for $449.99. If you want a bundle that includes a digital copy of Mario Kart World , it will cost $499.99. It’s not cheap, especially when you can buy a Switch OLED right now for $250 . The original Switch also retailed for $299.99, although adjusted for inflation that’s about $390, so the difference isn’t that significant.

We’ll likely never know exactly what went into the pricing decision for the new Switch, but it’s possible that tariffs played a big role. For example, the Switch 2 sold in Japan costs 49,980 yen , which is just over $333 today. The Mario Kart bundle costs 53,980 yen, or roughly $360, which is still cheaper than the original Switch’s suggested retail price in today’s money. Oh.

How much do Switch 2 games cost?

The difference between the standalone Switch 2 and the Mario Kart World bundle is $50, so you can get an idea of how much the game costs. Unfortunately, no: Mario Kart World actually costs $80 . However, not all games can cost that much. According to Geoff Keighley , Donkey Kong Bananza retails for $70. These are the only two games with retail prices, so we’ll have to see how Nintendo handles the MSRP in future games. (While we don’t know exact prices, we do know a lot of games that will be released for the Switch 2. )

What are your thoughts so far?

However, physical games may cost more . Reports show that European versions of Nintendo’s Mario Kart World cost €79.99 for a digital copy and €89.99 for a physical cart. $90 for a physical game card seems astronomical. We’ll have to wait and see if Nintendo provides any other pricing information.
