My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: Dangbei Freedo Portable Projector
Amazon’s Big Spring Sale is almost over, but there are still deals you can take advantage of , including Lifehacker associate tech editor Michelle Ehrhardt’s favorite tech deals . One deal you can take advantage of right now is the Dangbei Freedo , an officially Netflix-licensed 1080p portable projector. You can purchase it for $399 (originally $549), which is the lowest price ever, according to price trackers .
Portable projectors obviously need to work independently of a power outlet and be easy to carry around. They don’t have the best brightness as they are supposed to be lightweight, portable and require limited battery power, so keep that in mind. This projector does all the basic tasks well. It’s lightweight, portable, has a 2.5-hour battery life, which is on par with the competition, is 450 ISO lumens bright, which is good for its price, and also supports Dolby Audio and HDR10—nice benefits that not all portable projectors have.
With 450 lumens of brightness, you’ll have to keep the room relatively dark to get the best image. However, it can be used in the backyard in low ambient light (with some sacrifices in color and contrast). Because it’s officially licensed by Netflix, the app comes pre-installed and uses the Google TV operating system, which is my favorite because it means you can cast to your phone using Chromecast.
Dangbei Freedo has Full HD 1080p resolution, but supports 4K, meaning it receives the signal but upscales it to 1080p. What’s also impressive is that it can display a screen size of up to 180 inches. Auto focus and keystone correction are automatically turned on and work well, which is important for a portable projector.
