Amazon’s Biggest Kindle Is Now $75 Off

I love my Kindle Paperwhite (admittedly the latest generation), but even though I know its 6.8-inch screen isn’t really that much smaller than most paperbacks, I still sometimes feel like I have to squint to read it. Perhaps I’m guilty of considering it more of a tablet than a proper digital book, but sometimes I’m tempted to read on the iPad instead and just put up with the bright lights. Luckily, Amazon is releasing a larger Kindle and it’s now on sale.

Kindle Scribe is Amazon’s only digital note-taking device, which means it’s designed more for writing than reading, but it’s good for both. It can access your entire Kindle library, and the 10.3-inch screen makes text and images feel like there’s more room to breathe. This can be especially good for comics (though the black and white screen may make you want to stick with manga) and articles, and I’ve been tempted to upgrade for this reason alone in the past.

The problem was the price, which is usually a bit steep at $400. However, starting at $325 in this sale, that prospect suddenly becomes much more attractive.

And that goes double when you consider the intended use case for Kindle Scribe. It comes with a stylus that lets you mark up PDFs and take notes either in your own documents or in special fields in existing books, and Amazon says it’s reconfigured this model to feel more like paper when writing on it. Yes, there’s AI here too, although it’s fairly unobtrusive – when you’re done handwriting a note, you can ask Scribe to quickly summarize it, “clarify” it, or reconfigure it into a digital font if you like.

What are your thoughts so far?

Despite all this functionality, there are arguments for other digital note-takers—my colleague Joel Cunningham recently reviewed a similar device, the Boox Note Air 4C , which has a color screen and can run Android—but if you’re already in the Kindle ecosystem, this Scribe sale could be a handy little upgrade.
