Cleaning the floor is not for the weak. It’s muddy paw prints, mulch the dog leaves behind, and I’m known to be messy when cooking in the kitchen. I’ve created, unintentionally, the perfect laboratory for testing robot vacuum cleaners and mops, and for good reason, but I’m rarely impressed. That changed last year when Roborock released the S8 MaxV Ultra – it blew my mind. Right now, it’s 45% off during Amazon’s Big Spring Sale, bringing its price down to $999 (originally $1,799).
Let’s start with the basics: this is a fantastic vacuum. It sucks up not only fine dust and dirt, but also larger debris and rarely allows the rollers to get stuck or stick together. It has excellent LiDAR navigation and moves at a good speed, rarely requiring a mid-run recharge.
While many mops have moved to two independently rotating mop heads, I think a single vibrating mop pad (like the one on this unit) does a better job of removing dirt on the floor. The MaxV Ultra was the first robot mop that did a great job cleaning my floors.
The companion app is easy to navigate and comes with advanced features—for example, I really like seeing wear statistics for individual parts of both the tower and the device itself. Also, I can’t overstate how much I love the “Pin and Go” feature where you set a point on the map and the robot will go there and clean it up. The remote control feature that allows you to control the robot wherever it is stuck under the sofa is also very convenient.
Even though this model is a year or so old, I still prefer it to many of the more recent releases and recommend it all the time. For a premium robot vacuum and mop combination like this, a price point under $1,000 is pretty rare.
