Kindle Scribe looks and feels premium with an aluminum body and 10.2-inch anti-glare E Ink display. It’s available in Metallic Jade and Tungsten , although the back is a bit slick and is reportedly a fingerprint magnet, so a case isn’t a bad idea. This version includes a Premium Pen that attaches magnetically to the side and features an eraser and quick access button. Writing on the Scribe is smooth thanks to the lightly textured glass, and it responds without any noticeable lag. You can choose between different types of pens—fountain pen, pencil, marker—and choose between notebook templates such as checklists, planners, and sheet music. However, writing capabilities still lag behind dedicated e-ink note-taking tablets on the market. Plus, although writing feels natural, managing those notes isn’t that easy. According to this PCMag review , AI-powered summarization and handwriting cleanup tools are slow and clunky, creating separate pages that don’t merge back into the original notes.

Reading is still where the Scribe shines. The display is clear, automatically adjusts lighting, and has more than enough space for books, PDFs, and doodling. It holds 64GB of storage, which is more than most people will need. Battery life extends to 12 weeks if you’re just reading, although it drops to around three if you write regularly. Audiobook lovers should know that there is no headphone jack, so there’s only Bluetooth. And while performance is generally good, page turning and library scrolling are a little behind what you get on something like the Paperwhite . Overall, if you’re primarily a reader who wants to take notes every now and then, Scribe at this price is a good choice. But if your goal is serious digital journaling or replacing paper notebooks entirely, this may not be enough.
