Everything We Know About Apple WWDC 2025
Apple has officially announced the date for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), where it announces the latest and greatest software updates for many of its platforms, including iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch.
This year’s event will begin on June 9th with a public keynote, followed by a developer conference that runs until June 13th. The event promises to be a big one for Apple, with sweeping changes to the iPhone’s user interface, including redesigned icons, menus and apps. And we might even see a hardware announcement (but most likely not new MacBooks, since we just got our hands on the M4 MacBook Air ).
Updates for all major Apple operating systems.
Since this is a developer conference, we can expect announced updates for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and even VisionOS Vision Pro.
These will almost certainly include new features and functionality, although at the time of writing there is no specific information about new features.
However, one thing that several prominent leakers have confirmed is a visual overhaul of Apple’s interface that spans the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
iOS 19 and the new “glass” interface
Much attention is being paid to the iPhone interface this year. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that a “fundamental software overhaul” is coming for the iPhone, iPad and Mac, and now we can have an idea of what that will look like.
That’s because sometimes reliable leaker Jon Prosser reportedly had an early look at the iOS 19 redesign and was able to recreate some of what he saw. He calls it a “glass” interface, calling it a “more rounded, aesthetic and glossy, almost glassy style” with the edges of the interface protruding from the screen. A key example of this is the new keyboard design, which makes it appear as if it is floating above the screen.
The new look, according to Prosser, will be visible throughout the OS, from notifications to pop-ups. The overall design will be similar to Apple’s recently released Invites app.
Gurman, on the other hand, believes the redesign will be much bigger, with new round icons on the home screen and redesigned elements resulting in a fresh look for all of Apple’s built-in apps.
The design of WWDC 2025 confirms these rumors. The number “25” in the image is largely inspired by the VisionOS interface with glass elements.
macOS won’t be left behind
As far as we know at this point, macOS 16 will also get the same updated look, or at least some version of it. This will result in greater visual consistency between Mac and iPhone.
According to Mark Gurman, macOS will have a more translucent look, similar to VisionOS and what’s coming in iOS 19. This will also extend to apps, menus, and system features like pop-ups.
A wild Mac Pro may appear
The Mac Pro is the last Mac that hasn’t been upgraded to the M3 or M4 generation and currently features the M2 Ultra chip. Rumor has it that the Mac Pro will be updated with a new M3 Extreme chip, which will surpass the M3 Ultra chip found in the latest Mac Studio update.
Rumors, once again reported by Gurman, say that the Mac Pro should be updated sometime in the first half of the year , and it is possible that Apple will at least unveil it at WWDC. The WWDC keynote typically does not include hardware announcements, but does make exceptions from time to time.
