Kindle Colorsoft From Amazon Has Become Much More Profitable
The price of the Amazon Kindle Colorsoft was one of the biggest hurdles to recommend when I reviewed the device earlier this year and compared it to cheaper options like the Kobo Libra Color , but thanks to Amazon’s big spring sale, it’s now a significantly more attractive option. Normally selling for $280, it’s now dropped to $225, which actually makes it cheaper than Kobo and similar color ereaders from Boox or Bigme.
That’s a pretty significant savings, especially because Kindle Colorsoft has some key improvements over other color e-readers when it comes to the screen. Of course, it uses the same E Ink Kaleido 3 display as most other color e-readers, but it also boasts some tech additions that provide higher contrast and better lighting. Of course, it won’t be as bright as a more traditional tablet, but it’s the best I’ve ever seen with color e-ink.
There’s also no denying the convenience of the Amazon Kindle store. If you already have a library of content, purchasing a new Kindle device is the easiest way to upgrade it without losing access to it.
However, you will still have to make some sacrifices here. Comics are by far the best use case for color e-books I’ve found, and without access to apps like Marvel or DC, actually finding content to read on your new Colorsoft can be a little more difficult than elsewhere. Amazon also recently made it much harder to read Kindle content on non-Kindle devices , so you should know that you’re potentially entering the future of Amazon e-readers if you start buying books from its store.
However, if you’re willing to deal with it all, Kindle Colorsoft is one of the most technically advanced color e-readers available right now, and at this price you won’t have to pay more than many of its competitors.
