TikTok Has a New Security Verification Panel

Social media apps aren’t particularly known for their privacy and security features, but TikTok users get a little help with a built-in tool to monitor the security of their accounts and keep their information safe. The new Security Check Dashboard will show you where TikTok’s security is lacking and also provide step-by-step instructions for updating your settings.

How to Use TikTok Security Check

To get to your TikTok security dashboard, go to your profile and tap Settings & Privacy > Security & Permissions . A security check will show you which settings have been completed and which require attention, with instructions for updating each:

  • Adding an email address and/or phone number for account recovery

  • Enable two-step verification

  • Generate a passkey with device-based authentication such as Face ID or touch unlock.

  • Checking which devices are signed into your account (and removing unauthorized or unused devices)

TikTok will also flag “unusual account behavior” and log it in your security check for you to review.

TikTok is not the only social network with this security feature. For example, Meta has a security check on Instagram that helps users improve password strength, enable two-factor authentication, and add account recovery information. You can find this in your profile settings (tap the three vertical lines) and go to Account Center > Password & Security > Security Review to select the account you want to rate.

Google has a similar dashboard that shows you where you’re signed into your Google account, the apps and services you’ve connected to, recent security activity, sign-in and recovery settings, and recommendations for improving your account security.
