Seven Home Improvement Projects You Can Complete in One Day

Renovating your home has major benefits in terms of your enjoyment of the property and return on your investment , but it comes at the cost of time and discomfort. Remodeling can take weeks or months, and during that time your home will likely be filled with dust, debris, and workers. It is not surprising that people are choosing to leave their homes and live in rented apartments while work is being carried out.

Of course, not everyone will be able to do this, and not everyone will be able to spend the next few months living in a construction zone. If you have limited time (and a limited tolerance for clutter and clutter), you may want to put off home improvement projects until you have more of each. Or you might reconsider your expectations because there are a few one-day renovation projects (including cleaning ) that will have a big impact, but by lunchtime you’ll be relaxing on the couch.

Update your bathroom

A complete bathroom remodel can take weeks or months, which is very inconvenient, especially if there is only one bathroom in the house. But you can achieve a pretty impressive update to your bathroom in one day if you focus on the following:

  • Re-caulking your shower should only take a few hours. Not only will this get rid of unsightly stains and discolored caulk, but it will also help prevent future leaks caused by old caulk failing.

  • A new shower head can be installed in less than an hour. Alternatively, clean the one you have: remove the existing shower head and soak it in white distilled vinegar for about an hour, then rinse, scrub and reinstall.

  • Likewise, a new vanity faucet can be installed within an hour, as long as the supply and drain lines are not difficult to access.

Boom! With just a day’s work, your bathroom can be greatly improved. You might also consider installing a bathtub liner , which will instantly transform your shower or tub (theoretically) in just a day.

Dye

Paint is the easiest and cheapest repair of all, and you can do a lot with one day and a gallon of quality paint:

  • Paint the room – You can paint the entire room in one day. You’ll need to budget for a few hours between coats, so start early and make a plan.

  • Paint the furniture . Any piece of furniture in your home that’s looking a little dull can be improved with a coat of paint , including upholstered items .

  • You can also paint floors that have seen better days; Additionally, lampshades, fireplaces, radiators and kitchen appliances can be successfully painted in just a few hours.

Update your kitchen information

Just like your bathroom, a full-scale kitchen remodel can be time consuming and leave your home filled with dust for years to come. But you can transform your kitchen in one day by highlighting a few relatively simple but visually powerful areas:

  • New traction . Replace old, faded, perhaps outdated handles on drawers and cabinets with shiny new ones.

  • New faucet. Replacing an old faucet with a new one will not take more than a few hours.

  • Lighting. Installing sticky lights under cabinets will a) brighten up the space, which in turn makes it look cleaner and fresher, and b) add a touch of glamor to it.

  • Cover your backsplash with tear-away tiles to give it a whole new look.

Install vinyl plank flooring

If your current floors are a little sad and worn, you might think that installing a completely new floor will take at least a few days, if not a week. But you can install a brand new vinyl plank floor in a day, as you can see here (and this guy ripped out and replaced the subfloor, then installed vinyl plank, all in one day).

Of course, your mileage will depend on how comfortable you are with measuring and cutting planks, but this type of flooring is one of the easiest to install , looks great, and wears well.

Replace bathroom vanity

If you’re thinking about replacing your bathroom faucet, as noted above, why not take it one step further and update your entire vanity ? Turning off the plumbing, removing the old vanity and faucet and installing new ones requires only some basic plumbing knowledge and the use of a power drill, and it will only take you a few hours from start to finish, even if you include going to get a new vanity.

Add new lights and switches.

If you’re not afraid to do a little wiring, you can change your home’s light fixtures, plates over outlets and switches, and even the outlets and switches themselves in one day. Once you’ve turned off the power so there’s no chance of suicide, replacing your existing light fixtures can only take a few minutes for each one, so unless you have football field-sized lighting in your home, it shouldn’t take more than an hour or two to do them all (or as many as you want to change).

Likewise, replacing sockets and switch plates only takes a few minutes each (and only requires a screwdriver). And replacing light switches with dimmers is an equally quick and relatively simple project that you can easily complete throughout your home in one day.

Apply stickers to tile floors

If you have tile floors that need a little updating, but you don’t want to lay flooring over them or completely rip them out, you can cover them with peel-and-stick or sticker tiles very quickly. While you shouldn’t rush it since the end result largely depends on how precisely and accurately you cut out the pieces to fit your space, you can definitely complete an average sized room in a day, and you can probably do multiple rooms in one day if you focus and get the hang of it.
