How to Erase Saved Passwords From Your Web Browser
Saving your passwords in a browser like Chrome or Firefox provides an easy way to access website logins when you need them, and having a safe place to store strong and unique passwords is better than not having one. However, browser password managers aren’t necessarily the most secure or convenient for filling out password fields or paying in apps, nor do they have the features included in third-party password management tools, such as encrypted storage or dark web monitoring.
If you’re ditching your browser’s password manager or simply want to delete credentials you no longer use, here’s how to delete saved passwords in the most popular browsers.
How to Remove Saved Passwords from Chrome
Chrome allows you to delete your saved passwords one by one or bulk delete all the data stored in Google Password Manager. To delete individual logins, open the settings through the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the browser window.
-
Select Passwords & AutoFill > Google Password Manager . (You can also go through Chrome > Settings > AutoFill & Passwords > Google Password Manager .)
-
Click the arrow on the credentials you want to remove to open the entry and click the Remove button.
-
To delete everything at once, select Settings from the left menu of Google Password Manager and click the Delete data button next to “Delete all Google Password Manager data” and then click Delete in the pop-up message to confirm. ( Android Authority recently announced that this feature would be coming soon, but it appears it was already available at the time of writing.)
Chrome on mobile doesn’t yet have a bulk delete button, but you can delete individual passwords or select multiple passwords at once. In the Chrome app, click the three horizontal dots at the bottom of the navigation bar and open Password Manager. Click “Edit” to select the passwords you want to remove and click “Remove.”
To turn off saving passwords, turn off the “Offer to save passwords and access keys” option in Google Password Manager settings.
How to Delete Saved Passwords from Firefox
To manage and delete saved passwords in Firefox, tap the three vertical lines to open the menu bar and tap Passwords. Select an entry and click Delete to remove it, or click the three horizontal lines in the top right corner and click Remove All Passwords . On a mobile device, you can delete a login entry individually, or select multiple credentials to delete at once by tapping Edit in the main password list.
To disable saving and managing passwords in Firefox, go to Firefox > Preferences/Preferences > Privacy & Security and go to Passwords. Uncheck “Ask me to save passwords” (or turn on the “Save passwords” switch on your mobile device).
How to Remove Saved Passwords from Safari
The process for deleting saved passwords from Safari will depend on whether you’re using macOS Sequoia with the new Apple Passwords app. If you do this, passwords can be deleted in the application by selecting the login and choosing Edit > Delete either from the entry or from the main menu bar. Or select all using Command+click and drag and drop into the Deleted Items folder. You can view deleted items for 30 days before they are deleted permanently. In the mobile app, you can select one or more passwords and click Delete . Note that Passwords now looks more like a third-party password manager than other browsers.
Otherwise, for macOS Sonoma and earlier, go to Safari > Preferences > Passwords , sign in using your password or Touch ID, select the website for which you want to remove the password, and click Remove Password or Remove Password .
You can also turn off saving passwords in the Passwords app under Passwords > Settings > Save Passwords . From the drop-down menu, select Don’t ask when signing in .
How to remove saved passwords from Edge
To remove saved passwords in Microsoft Edge, go to Settings & More > Settings > Privacy, Search & Services . Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear > Passwords > Clear now . If you want to turn off saving passwords, instead of selecting Privacy, Search & Services, go to Profiles > Passwords > Settings and turn off Offer to save passwords .
How to remove saved passwords from Opera
Opera allows you to delete saved passwords individually or in bulk. Open Settings , click Advanced in the left navigation bar, and click Privacy & Security . To remove all passwords, click Clear browsing data > More , select the Passwords and other sign-in information field, and click Clear data . Instead, to remove passwords one by one, choose AutoFill > Passwords , click the three-dot menu, and click Remove . To turn off saving passwords, turn on the “Offer to save passwords” switch at the top of the same screen.
