My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: Apple AirTag Four-Pack

Today you don’t have to be a spy to have tracking devices. If you’re an Apple user, AirTags uses Find My to keep track of everything you might have these devices installed on. Right now, Amazon has a four-pack priced at $67.99 (originally $99)—a new all-time low price according to price tracking tools —likely because the AirTag 2 release date is approaching. If four is too much, you can also snag one AirTag on sale for $22.99 (originally $29).

AirTags are primarily sold for wallets, keys, and travel bags ( airlines are now adopting their use ), but there are examples of people using them in much more creative ways (someone on this Reddit post used it on a dog collar and taught it to return whenever they press the “play sound” function). AirTag works with a network of Apple iOS devices to create a Bluetooth tracker. Essentially, every person with an iPhone (or iPad) is part of this iOS network, and as soon as one of those people is within Bluetooth range of your AirTag, they will show up as the latest location in your Find My app.

As you can see in PCMag’s “excellent” review of the AirTag , the Find My app has a screen that points you in the direction of your AirTag, like a compass, including its distance. There’s also an option to play audio , which is ideal for finding, say, the remote hidden under the sofa.

Once the AirTag is more than 30 feet away from your phone, the iOS user network will turn on. When the AirTag gets closer than 30 feet, it will use your own Bluetooth. Apple has built in security measures, including end-to-end encryption, to ensure that no one (not even Apple) knows where your AirTag is but you. The batteries last about a year and must be replaced. They also don’t have a monthly fee, unlike competitors like Tile or Chipolo for Android users.
