Apple TV Is Finally Available on Android
If you’re living without an Apple TV because you use an Android phone, then Apple has good news for you, oil refiner. Starting today, the Apple TV app is available on Pixel devices, Samsung Galaxies, and all other Android phones and tablets, plus you can sign up for Apple TV+ and an MLS (Major League Soccer) Season Pass.
This is great news for anyone who, like me, can’t stop thinking about Severance , and Apple is doing everything it can to make the sign-up process as easy as possible. Android users can sign up for various Apple TV subscriptions using their Google Play account instead of entering a separate email address, according to a press release sent to reporters.
Apple TV’s subscription-free offerings will also be available to Android users, so you’ll be able to watch pay-per-view movies as well.
Android devices aren’t the first third-party hardware to gain access to Apple TV—I personally watch on my PlayStation 5—but the new cross-platform support should make viewing on mobile devices much easier. Android TV technically already had a downloadable version of Apple TV, but now all Android devices will have the same privileges.
In addition to Severance , which is currently in its second season, Apple TV+ also streams popular shows including comedy Ted Lasso and sci-fi drama The Bunker , as well as original films like Killers of the Flower Moon and Coda . There are also more niche favorites, such as the game development sitcom Mythic Quest , which features much of the same creative team from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia . On the sports side, Apple TV+ fans get free access to Friday Night Baseball and Sunday Night Soccer.
Meanwhile, the Major League Soccer Season Pass is a separate purchase from Apple TV+ and allows viewers to watch all available MLS matches without blackout, not just those featured on Sunday Night Soccer. To sweeten the pot, there’s also plenty of bonus content such as post-match analysis, highlights and player interviews. The league is set to begin its 30th season on February 22, which I think may have contributed to today’s sudden announcement.
As with Apple devices, Android users can get a seven-day free trial of Apple TV+ as soon as they download the app, although there are a number of more enticing offers that tend to come and go. If you decide to take the plunge, the subscription will cost you $10 per month, or $19.95 per month if you decide to get it as part of the Apple One plan . So an MLS season pass costs $15 per month on its own, or $13 per month if you already have an Apple TV+ subscription.
