You Can Now Silently Mute People on Discord

There are times when blocking someone on Discord feels downright harsh. Plus, when you block someone, they’ll know you did it, which can lead to unwanted drama. Perhaps you just want to ignore their existence. You can go on with your merry life and they can go about their business. No hard feelings. Well, Discord has now added a feature called Ignore, so you can do just that.

What does it mean to ignore someone on Discord?

Ignore is essentially a mute function. This allows you to mute someone who is annoying or downright offensive. All without the added drama of blocking anyone completely. You can even use it to take a temporary break from someone since they won’t know that you ignored them. Ignored users will still be able to see your profile and send you messages, you’ll just remain blissfully unaware of these interactions unless you choose to pay attention to them.

When an ignored user posts a message in group chats, private messages, or anywhere else on the server, their messages will be hidden by default, but you will have the option to view them using the Show button. You also won’t receive notifications about their activity.

And when you visit the profile of the person you ignored, you’ll see a full-screen page reminding you to ignore that person. But of course, if necessary, you can view their profile.

The Ignore feature also applies to voice chat. You will receive a warning that you are about to join a voice chat with an ignored user. Here you can also ignore the warning if you want, but you will be able to hear the ignored user – there is no mute feature in voice calls.

How to Ignore a User on Discord

There are two main ways to ignore a user. You can do this from the person’s profile or directly from private messages if you have already communicated with them.

Visit his profile or click his name in a group chat, then click the three-dot menu icon and click the Ignore button.

In the pop-up window, click the “Ignore” button to confirm.

To do this from a direct message to the user you want to ignore, right-click on the profile name and select the Ignore option.

However, you will still see their name in your private message list first. Right-click and select the “Close DM” feature to remove them from the list. You can always access their private messages or profile again by going to Friends > All .

You can also easily un-ignore someone. Go back to their profile and click the Don’t Ignore button next to the “You ignored them” notification.
