Apple-owned Beats by Dre has made some updates to the fourth model of its popular Solo headphone series – mainly adding the ability to talk to Siri hands-free. But they’ve also added personalized spatial audio to the shape of your ear, giving you “3D audio” that follows the movement of your iPhone (assuming it supports spatial audio), and also extended battery life to an impressive 50 hours.

The headphones are over-ear headphones (as opposed to in-ear headphones, which are larger and fit snugly around your ears) and lack active noise cancellation and a customizable equalizer option in the app. I like that they still give you the option to connect a 3.5mm stereo cable in case you don’t want to go wireless. The sound is as good as you’d expect from Beats headphones: well-balanced sound with powerful bass and treble.

If you don’t have an Apple device, you’ll miss out on some features, such as Siri integration, as well as the lack of an Android-compatible codec . The flip side of this is that Apple users get great value from these headphones thanks to AAC and SBC codecs, one-touch pairing with most Apple devices, automatic pairing with devices using iCloud in the Apple ecosystem, audio sharing , and simultaneous connection to certain Apple products (like your iPhone and Apple Watch), according to a “good” PCMag review .
