Six Drinking Games You Can Play During Super Bowl LIX
The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will meet in Super Bowl LIX this Sunday, February 9, 2025. This year’s game will be televised by Fox with a pregame show starting at 2:00 pm ET and game coverage beginning at 6:00 pm ET.
But who cares about all this? We’re here to get ready for the real game on February 9th – whatever shenanigans you and your friends get into during your Super Bowl party. Before we dive into the best drinking games for Super Bowl Sunday, let me be clear: Any game can be a drinking game, but not every game has to be a drinking game. You can take any of the gameplays below and assign “punishments” that don’t involve drinking.
Now let’s start the games.
Drink every time [blank] happens
The idea of this game is simple, but there’s plenty of room for originality: drink a drink every time [blank] occurs. The main thing is to make a detailed list in advance. You can assign different rules to different items, such as “take a sip,” “finish your drink,” or “eat a hot wing.” The penalties (or rewards) are up to you, depending on how likely or important the list item is. Here are some ideas to get you started on your list. Feel free to add your own:
-
Your team scores.
-
The player points triumphantly to the sky.
-
There is a fine.
-
Someone yells at the referee (on or off screen).
-
The camera pans to the player’s child.
-
Everyone at your party is excited about the player’s child.
-
The animal speaks in the advertisement.
-
The child speaks in the advertisement.
-
The baby animal speaks in the advertisement.
-
In the commercial, an animal and a child are talking.
-
Someone at your party says “sportsball” or any of the clichés on this list .
“I’m watching commercials!” Bingo
Finally, a drinking game for every Super Bowl partygoer who claims, ” I’m just watching the commercials ” or ” The commercials are my favorite part!” »
Print or quickly draw some blank bingo cards and fill them with Super Bowl advertising squares. These could be the names of big companies whose advertisements you expect to see, or features of the advertisement itself, such as overly patriotic cars, overly erotic perfumes, or overly wild Mountain Dew fever dreams . As always, whoever gets BINGO first wins. Oh, and don’t forget to drink every time you fill a square.
Half-time showdown
Take a break from screen gaming with a physical party game. Note. You can play them at any time, not just during halftime. I mean, at this point, your eyes will probably be on Kendrick Lamar and SZA.
Some party game ideas:
-
Turn the cup over . Just like college, right? Divide your players into Chiefs and Eagles to keep the stakes high.
-
Paper football . Remember how you passed the time in math class by throwing folded paper “footballs” onto your friend’s desk? If you’ve been a more attentive student than me, here’s information on how to make and play paper football .
-
Squares . Create a grid of 10 squares and let everyone playing choose an equal number of squares. Then assign a command to the columns and a command to the rows and randomly assign numbers 0-9 to each column and row. At the end of each quarter, the winner (aka the drinker!) is chosen by using the last number of each team’s scores to see where they overlap.
More likely,…
We hinted at this above in the “drink every time [blank]” list. If you’re throwing a party with a good group of friends, test each other’s knowledge with the Most Likely to… game. Who will pay the least attention to the game? Who will have the most outrageous temper tantrums? Who’s to say how much they miss Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s iconic 2020 halftime show ?
Write down all your questions and predictions in advance, and then have fun wondering who got the most rights at the end of the party.
Hatch landing
Since it can take a while for each team to score a touchdown, this game is ideal for those who are worried about losing their rhythm or getting too drunk before the game is over. The game is simple: when someone scores a touchdown, you have to finish your drink. Down the hatch!
If you don’t want to drink a full cup while playing this game, you can switch it up to a shot of your favorite liquor with each tap.
Speaking of filming…
Take a photo when…
This game is almost identical to the Drink Every Time game described above, but tweaked to include shots so it’s for those who want to have a little more fun. The idea is to make a list of shot-worthy events, such as “the coach yells at the umpire” or “something goes wrong during the break,” and then take shots when they happen.
If the promise of regular vaccinations isn’t enough for you, we have another trick for you: the 1, 2, 3 rule. The first time something on your vaccination list occurs, you get one shot. The second time this happens, do two. Three, three… and then hopefully you don’t go beyond that point for your health and safety.
On the other hand, you can always take a sip instead of taking a full shot.
Again, none of these party games should involve alcohol. But they definitely can if you want them to. Super Bowl LVIX will take place on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 pm ET/3:30 pm PT. Here’s how you can stream it even if you don’t have cable.
