PCMag gave it an Editors’ Choice rating of “Excellent,” praising its 2K HDR video quality and powerful 3,000-lumen floodlight, all with wireless installation. Unlike wired floodlight cameras, this camera doesn’t require complicated installation—just secure it with the included screws, connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and you’re ready to go. Its 160-degree field of view covers a wide area, and color night vision works well, although colors aren’t as vibrant in low-light conditions. Motion alerts are said to be fast and accurate, and the Advanced Object Detection feature lets you know if it’s a person, animal or vehicle rather than just random movement.

The floodlight itself is dimmable and has a white color temperature of 4000K, making it bright enough to deter intruders but not blinding if you just want visibility. You can turn it on manually through the Arlo Secure app or set it to automatically trigger when motion is detected. The camera also features 12x digital zoom with auto zoom and tracking so it can follow movement in the frame. The battery is rechargeable and lasts for months, but if you don’t want to deal with recharging, Arlo sells an optional solar panel (or you can buy it as a kit for $179.99, down from $309.98 right now) or an external magnetic cable ($49.99) for continuous power. A small catch: To access your recorded footage, you’ll need an Arlo Smart Plan subscription —starting at $2.99 per month for one camera and $9.99 per month for five cameras (or more if you want 4K recording).

In terms of performance, daytime video is clear with excellent colors, and night vision is clear up to 25 feet away. Motion detection works reliably, notifications arrive quickly, and footage stored in the cloud is clear. There’s a little barrel distortion, but it’s not critical, PCMag’s review noted. Additionally, it works with Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT applets for seamless smart home integration.
