These Are My Favorite Price Tracking Tools.
If you’ve ever felt like you’ve been cheated by overpaying for something advertised as a “good deal”, you’ve come to the right place. It’s easy to get caught up in crazy online shopping holidays like Black Friday or Prime Day , especially when retailers are known for secretly raising prices ahead of major “sales” or tricking shoppers into spending more than you intended .
To determine the best time to buy something, you need to keep an eye on constantly changing online prices and have some knowledge of how prices have changed in the past. As a shopping and deals writer, this is what I do for a living, and I know how time-consuming it can be. Luckily, you don’t have to figure it all out: here are the best websites and extensions I’ve been using for years to check price history and track prices so you can be sure you’re getting the best deal.
Best Amazon Price Tracker: Camelcamelcamel
CamelCamelCamel is one of the best ways to track Amazon product prices. You can install a browser extension (in Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera, and Safari) to access the site’s features without leaving Amazon, or you can simply copy and paste the Amazon link or product name into the website’s search bar. CamelCamelCamel shows how an item’s price has gone up and down over time, how prices have changed directly on Amazon, and price fluctuations among third-party Amazon sellers who list new and used items.
If you sign up for a free account, you can set up alerts so the site can notify you by email when the price of an item drops below a certain amount, if you can use it at a given price, or if it’s at an all-time low and it’s a good time to buy. You can even see previous historical highs and lows and try to determine the best time to hit.
Best price tracker for most online stores and for price comparison: Honey
You’ve probably already heard about the Honey influencer scam that exploded in December 2024. Essentially, Honey stole affiliate links from the influencers who sponsored them. Additionally, in many cases, they deliberately chose not to provide the best coupons to users who used the extension (which was completely against their business model). Honey is not alone in this behavior. Many coupon aggregator companies intercept affiliate links; Honey just got the spotlight because it’s the biggest. If you decide to use any of their services, please use your own judgment.
The bad news for those looking for a price tracking tool that can be used for most online stores is that Honey is the only option. The good news is that Honey’s price tracker won’t scam you or give you bad coupons. The Honey browser extension compares prices from a range of retailers, not just Amazon. You can create a drop-down list that will notify you if the prices of an item in your list drop, as long as you’re willing to wait for a good deal. Here’s what creating a Droplist can do for you :
First, it will keep the items you want to keep track of organized and easily accessible. Secondly, it will track the prices of these products and alert you when they go on sale at any major retail store. You can see what these prices are worth before the sale to see if they are actually bargains or a ploy by retailers to take advantage of you, and even compare them to other major retailers’ prices to see who has the best deal. You can see how to customize the dropdown here.
Until you purchase products through Honey’s link, you will not be contributing money to the service. You can still use their tool to your advantage without passing on any affiliate income to them. Until a better alternative comes along, Honey is the only option that can instantly get price history and track prices for multiple retailers using a browser extension (for now).
Best Price Comparison Tool: Capital One Shopping
Capital One Shopping , formerly known as Wikibuy, compares prices from other sellers when you shop on Amazon. The browser extension will notify you if the product you’re viewing is cheaper elsewhere, and offer summary information about price history, estimated delivery time, and total price, including taxes and shipping. If you can apply a coupon, it will add that as well. When the price of an item you’re viewing drops, Capital One Shopping will notify you. As you shop, you can earn credits for your purchases on select websites like Walmart and eBay that Capital One Shopping partners with. You can redeem this credit for gift cards or spend it on purchases through the Capital One Shopping site.
The extension is available for Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari, and the iOS app lets you scan barcodes and search for price comparison products from your phone.
Best Price Tracking Tool for Gamers: CheapShark
While most other reviewers focus on products like electronics, clothing, home goods, and appliances, CheapShark is a great option for those looking to save money on video games. CheapShark brings together all the great places to get deals on games into one easily searchable catalog and database of current prices from sites like Steam, GoG, Green Man Gaming, GameStop, Amazon and more. Of course, this is limited to video games, but you can search a game’s name not only to find out how much it will cost you, but even to find out if you can even buy it—and which store has it in stock. If you want, you can even filter by games that are currently on sale in selected stores.
When you search for a specific game, CheapShark tells you what the lowest price ever was when it reached that price and gives you the choice to either buy it from the retailer of your choice or sign up for a price alert if it drops again.
Honorable Mentions
SlickDeals: Great for finding deals and checking prices.
SlickDeals is known for bringing you the latest discounts, coupons, and other deals from around the web, but its web-based price tracker is also great for viewing prices on almost any item on Amazon and a variety of other popular shopping sites like Newegg, Gamestop, Chewy, Home Depot, and more.
This service doesn’t give you detailed price history like some of the others in the review – it only shows “trade history” in the “price information” section for a few popular products. However, it will track the price of your item from the time the alert is created and send you an email if the price drops below the threshold you set. You can also return to price tracking at any time, log into your account, and view all your tracked items on one screen.
Keepa: A great tool for tracking prices on Amazon and eBay.
Keepa works very similar to Camelcamelcamel, but instead of clicking on the extension to view price history, it automatically appears below the product image. This helps if clicking on an extension or installing it is too difficult for you. Keepa also lets you track specific products and sends you notifications when they drop below the price you set. This also works on eBay. You can download the extension for Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Edge and Safari.
