A Checklist of All the Things You Forget to Put Away, for Each Room.
Spring cleaning time is just around the corner, and while you’re putting together your usual to-do list , there are a few things you might be overlooking—we all have blind spots, after all. Let’s look at a few places you’re likely to forget about so you can add them to your daily routine. After reviewing these suggestions and tips, you can use this checklist I created in Google Sheets to remind you of anything you may have missed. You can make your own copy of this document and open it every couple of months to check each task as you complete it.
The most forgotten places in your bathroom
You already know how to clean a toilet (and how not to do it ) and a bathtub. There are no water stains and your tiles are clean . Forgot something? It could be these:
-
Clean and unclog your sink overflow holes if you have one.
-
Clean and disinfect frequently touched but rarely noticed surfaces such as shower head handles, toilet flush mechanisms and drawer handles. (Learn the difference between sanitizing, sanitizing, and cleaning while you’re at it.)
-
Wash your shower curtain.
-
Clean your shower head thoroughly , as well as your sink faucet aerator, which can become clogged over time.
-
Wipe down the inside of your medicine cabinet (and maybe take some time to organize it).
-
Wipe down the outside of the toilet, including the sides.
-
Do the same with the outside of the trash can.
-
Clean dusty fixtures.
-
Finish the baseboards, then mop them.
What do you forget to clean in the kitchen?
The kitchen creates a new mess every day (even multiple times a day), so while you’re spending all that time wiping down countertops and loading the dishwasher, it’s easy to overlook the dirt that accumulates over time in less time. noticed the spots. Periodically you should:
-
Clear the area under and behind major appliances ( which you can actually do without moving them ).
-
Remove dust and wipe down the top of the refrigerator, not just the inside and underneath.
-
…but also empty and clean the refrigerator, including the shelves. (When you put everything back, it’s time to reorganize the contents .)
-
When you get to the oven , don’t forget about the warming drawer, as well as the vent, hood, and handles.
-
Scrub your apron.
-
Clean the toaster’s crumb tray.
-
Wipe down the outside of the trash can.
-
Clean and disinfect drawer handles and handles on cabinets, refrigerators, and microwaves.
-
Disinfect light switches (and any other switches in the room).
-
Decorate your lamps.
-
Wipe down the tops and bottoms of cabinets, especially those with open ceiling space.
-
Thoroughly dust and clean all baseboards before sweeping and mopping the floor.
What to clean in the living room
You pay attention to cleaning the kitchen and bathroom for sanitary reasons, and that makes sense, but the living room? It’s all about aesthetics, baby. After all, you want to impress your guests. Impress them even more by remembering:
-
Dust your plants (even artificial ones).
-
Dust the candles.
-
Clean and disinfect frequently touched items such as remote controls and stands (and light switches).
-
Dust from photo frames and other knick-knacks.
-
Remove the cushions from your sofa and chair and vacuum underneath them for a terrifying surprise.
-
Clean window blinds and curtains. (It’s easy to be blinded: there’s a hack .)
-
Also dust and wipe down window sills.
-
Clean the undersides of coffee tables, side tables and ottomans.
-
Clean the light fixtures.
-
Finish the baseboards one more time before sweeping, vacuuming and/or mopping.
What to clean in bedrooms
Your bedroom is the one place that is dedicated just to you, so treat yourself to extra cleanliness. Try cleaning them for bonus points:
-
Wipe down curtain rods and window sills when you throw your curtains in the wash. (If you have blinds, clean them.)
-
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects such as alarm clocks, drawer handles, doorknobs and light switches.
-
Clean the ceiling fan (but be sure to do this before vacuuming).
-
Wipe down the top of the headboard.
-
Dust plants, candles, photo frames and trinkets.
-
As always, finish off the baseboards before mopping the floor.
