Favorite Song Manager Automatically Turns Your Spotify Likes Into Playlists
My Spotify playlist of favorite songs isn’t exactly pleasant to listen to in random order; there are simply too many genres and moods. Fortunately, there is now a Liked Songs Manager – an online service that automatically sorts your favorite songs into playlists based on any criteria: genre, decade, or even mood.
To get started, go to your Favorite Songs Manager and sign in using your Spotify account. You’ll then see a list of criteria you can use to create playlists. I recommend first clicking “Analyze Songs by Playlist” at the top of the screen – this will show you how many songs in your favorites list are available in each category. You can then browse through the categories and tag any that you think would make interesting playlists.
The main categories are mood, genre, subgenre, decade and nationality. You can also create playlists based on when you liked them, or create completely randomized lists. Create as many playlists as you want and click the Create Selected Playlists button. You will see a progress bar after which your playlists will be created. They should appear in Spotify immediately, but you may have to relaunch the app to see them.
A real bonus: the service will continuously work with the playlists it creates. Any songs you like in the future will also be sorted into new playlists, meaning you’re essentially adding multiple curated playlists just by tapping the “Like” button on a song every now and then. It’s also worth noting that you can change the names of the playlists you create if you wish – the updates will still work.
There are some restrictions. The free version can only create 15 playlists and only count the first 1000 songs you like. The premium plan, which costs $8 per month, removes the limit on the number of songs you can like and supports the creation of up to 100 playlists. It also allows you to combine criteria—for example, you could create a list that includes only 1990s pop-punk or 2000s hip-hop.
