Netflix Just Raised Its Prices Again
It’s hard to keep track of how much Netflix is worth these days as the company keeps raising its damn prices. This is especially important if you want to share your account with others: the company stopped free password sharing in the US back in May 2023. From then on, if you want to share your Netflix password with someone else, it will cost you an additional monthly fee.
But even this monthly fee has increased. During its Q4 2024 earnings call on Tuesday, Netflix announced it would raise prices for all subscriptions and additional users. Here’s the status of the company’s various subscription options as of January 2025.
Standard with ads ($7.99/month)
Standard with Ads is Netflix’s cheapest plan right now. Launched in November 2022, this plan gives subscribers access to most of Netflix’s library of movies and TV shows, as well as all mobile games. It’s a little difficult to find updated lists of titles not included in the Standard Ad-Supported plan ( the last one appears to be a 2024 Variety article ), but in any case, you’ll see a padlock icon next to titles that you have an ad-supported plan doesn’t allow it.
This plan allows you to stream on two supported devices simultaneously in Full HD. This means your content will be streamed in 1080p rather than 4K HDR. You can also download games on two devices at the same time. Additionally, you cannot add other users to your plan. The plan cost $6.99 for a while before Netflix raised it to $7.99 in January.
Standard ($17.99 per month plus $8.99 per additional user)
There is one immediate difference between Standard and Standard with Ads: no ads. The standard allows you to stream Netflix to your heart’s content—all Netflix content, mind you—without showing you a single ad. You know, like Netflix has always done. You will also be able to download these games on two supported devices at the same time.
Standard also lets you add someone outside of your household to your account for an additional $8.99 per month. (That’s $1 more than before.) This raises the monthly price of Standard from $17.99 to $26.98. However, you will only be able to add one additional external user to your account, so choose wisely.
While you won’t have to deal with ads and have no restrictions on what you can watch, your content will look the same since video quality is limited to 1080p resolution. If you want 4K HDR shows and movies, you’ll have to pay even more.
Premium ($24.99 per month plus $8.99 per additional user)
A Netflix premium account is as good as it gets. Here you have unlimited access to the Netflix library, including the ability to stream in 4K HDR when available. Netflix allows you to stream on four devices simultaneously and download movies on six devices at the same time.
This subscription used to cost $22.99, but Netflix raised the price to $24.99 this week. You also have the option to add up to two users outside of your household to your plan. Of course, that adds up quickly: the $24.99 per month Premium cost increases to $33.98 when you add one user and to $42.97 when you add two. Imagine in 2022, while you’re watching the fourth season of Stranger Things , you tell someone you’re paying over $40 a month for Netflix.
