You Can Now Schedule Recurring Tasks and Reminders Using ChatGPT

With the new Tasks feature, ChatGPT takes a big step towards becoming your indispensable digital assistant. With it, you can set reminders and recurring tasks with the bot. Keep in mind that this will not replace your Reminders app : the Tasks feature is currently only in beta and available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users on iOS, Android, macOS, or the web. OpenAI also plans to make this feature available to anyone with a free ChatGPT account when the stable version is released.

What can you do with ChatGPT tasks?

ChatGPT tasks can be used to set simple reminders, for example, if you set Google Assistant or Siri, the ChatGPT app will send you a notification with the appropriate reminder.

But what’s even more interesting are the repetitive tasks. You can do some quick steps and ask ChatGPT to perform tasks for you at a specific time every day or once a week and it will perform those actions for you. And since it can trigger any prompt at a given time, you can ask it to do things like summarize the day’s news (pulled from the open web using ChatGPT search), create a new 10-minute workout every day, or give you a motivational message. I quote every morning.

How to create recurring tasks in ChatGPT

You can create a new task from any conversation, but it may be better to create a new conversation for this. When you are in conversation view, click the ChatGPT model option at the top and switch to GPT-4o with the scheduled tasks option .

Write down a reminder or recurring task. In testing, I found that it works best when the prompts are detailed.

ChatGPT will then show you a new task window. You can click on the task field to expand it.

Here you can easily change the prompt, time, date and frequency. If you want to pause a task, press the three-dot Menu button and select Pause .

Now just wait. When the time is up, you will receive a notification from ChatGPT (this works best if you are using the ChatGPT app on your Mac or smartphone), and when you select the notification, ChatGPT’s response will be ready. You’ll even receive an email from OpenAI confirming the task has been completed.

To view and manage all your tasks, select the Profile icon on the ChatGPT website or app and select the Tasks option. All your tasks will be listed here. From here you can easily edit, pause or delete tasks.

If you’re looking for inspiration to use ChatGPT tasks in your life, here are some examples you can try:

  • Create a new workout program every morning

  • Create a new language lesson

  • Plan intentional breaks from work and technology and get suggestions for what to do instead.

  • Wake up every day to a weather forecast, a motivational quote, and the day’s top news – all in one message.

  • Check stock prices every morning or at different times throughout the day.

Don’t completely trust ChatGPT tasks

While this feature may be handy and is a step towards a future AI agent, the AI is still hallucinating and can misinterpret commands. Therefore, you should be vigilant when using ChatGPT tasks and double check the output before taking it at face value. As always, be careful before assigning an important task to a bot.
