Here’s When You Can Try Switch 2 for Yourself

The Nintendo Switch 2 is now official, and… we don’t know much about it yet. It’s a little larger, it’s backwards compatible, and the Joy-Con controllers are magnetic, but other than those scant details, there’s not much to get excited about for now beyond the more detailed Switch 2 Direct set coming in April. This may be why Nintendo is giving people the chance to try out the new Switch around the same time.
Announced on the company’s website alongside the new console, the “Nintendo Switch 2 Experience” will give attendees a chance to experience Nintendo’s upcoming console ahead of its release, which is scheduled for some time this year.
The demos will begin on April 4 in New York and Paris and will gradually tour around the world, with Seoul currently ranked last on the list, with the event scheduled for May 31 – June 1. Several cities, such as Hong Kong and Taipei, also have Switch 2 Experience dates yet to be announced.
Considering that the whole point of the Switch 2 Experience is to try out the console before it’s released, I believe this also hints that we can expect the console’s official release date to be set sometime after June.
The Switch 2 demo will sell tickets, so you’ll need to register to participate, and unfortunately, registering will be a bit like a lottery. Registration begins tomorrow, January 17th at 3:00 pm ET and runs until January 26th at 11:00 pm local time. After registration you will have the opportunity to receive a ticket; On the other hand, registration and tickets are free, and early registration does not make you more eligible.
You can also register in groups of up to six people, although each participant over the age of six will need their own (free) Nintendo Account, presumably to reduce the number of people submitting multiple registrations per person.
For anyone outside the US who wants to travel to New York to check out the device as soon as possible, I also have some bad news: the demos in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas are only open to US residents. However, Paris seems to be accessible to everyone.
Registration opens on Nintendo’s website tomorrow. Check below to see the full schedule.
