CES 2025: Lenovo’s Foldable Laptop Can Unfold Like a Scroll

Forget foldable phones : Lenovo has a foldable laptop. First introduced as a concept two years ago , the device is finally coming to market, albeit with a decidedly understated name – ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable.

The idea is that you can get extra screen real estate without having to carry around an additional display or buy a multi-screen device like the Asus Zenbook Duo . Instead, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable will fit in your bag like any regular 14-inch laptop, but if you press a special key or signal the webcam with a special gesture, its motorized screen will roll up to reveal “50% more features.” screen space.”

This is possible thanks to the OLED panel, since OLED actually has another advantage besides superior contrast: it is much more flexible than other display technologies. This is why you can get foldable phones, although this scroll-like device is much larger than the more pocket-sized flexible OLED displays you’re probably used to.

When fully extended, the display measures up to 16.7 inches, so while you’re not doubling the resolution here, the expanded vertical space should be great for programmers or people who might need a reference document while working. You can also hold meetings at the top of the screen while taking notes at the bottom, and your webcam will actually be slightly higher when the screen is maximized, which can bring it closer to your face.

Aside from the screen, which also goes up to 120Hz for smooth input, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable looks like a pretty typical Copilot+ Windows PC . Processors up to Intel Core Ultra 7 are available, maximum memory is 32GB, and storage can be configured up to 1TB. There are two Thunderbolt 4 ports, as well as a fingerprint scanner, but unfortunately only one color option. There is also no dedicated GPU.

Given these specs, the $3,500 starting price might be a little high for me, but as someone who desperately needs an extra monitor from my home setup, writing all these CES articles from my hotel room gives me a vision.
