Several sites, including Tumblr and Craigslist, have removed their RSS feeds. Other services, such as TikTok, never offered RSS feeds in the first place. This is annoying if you want to keep an eye on what’s going on without creating an account, as is possible with Bluesky and Mastodon . Even worse: there are even some news sites that don’t offer feeds, which is a problem if you’re setting up an RSS reader and hoping to subscribe to your favorite sites.
OpenRSS is a free service that creates open RSS feeds for various websites. Unlike similar services, this is not automated – the team actively creates and maintains the integration. The service is run by a non-profit organization whose financial information is transparent right on the About page .
You can go to their Channels page to see an overview of supported apps – click on any one to learn more about how to use it. For example, for Craigslist, you can browse the site in any region and then either run a search or navigate to a subsection. In your browser’s address bar, add openrss.org to the beginning of the domain in the address bar. Press Enter and the RSS feed for the page will open. This means you can track anything you’re hoping to buy – just create an RSS for that term and you’ll see when someone posts it.
Tumblr works the same way: go to any profile page and add openrss.org to the beginning of the URL, as in openrss.org/www.tumblr.com/username . Now you will receive every new post from this user directly in your news feed.
OpenRSS offers feeds for more than just the apps listed on their feeds page. You can find others by adding the openrss.org URL to the top of any website on the web – if OpenRSS offers a feed for the site, it provides it to you (and if it doesn’t, you’ll see a page explaining it).
