How to Watch Porn in Virtual Reality
A friend of mine said that the first question we ask when introduced to new technology is: “How can I use it for sex?” To that end, we’ll cover how to use a Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S, Apple Vision Pro, PSVR, Vive, or other virtual reality headset to have sex… or watch virtual porn, anyway.
(If you’re wondering what else you can do with the Quest 3 or 3S, here’s a guide to the must-have apps for both.)
How to Watch VR Porn Using Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S or Other VR Headset
It’s almost ridiculously easy to get an “entry-level” VR porn experience in VR with any non-Apple headset. (More on this below.)
Watch entry-level porn in VR, step by step
-
Lock the door.
-
Put on your headset.
-
Click on your web browser of choice.
-
Go to a site that hosts VR porn. Free video mega sites like Youporn have a VR section or just use Google to find something. Clicking on a video should launch you into virtual reality, but “should” means a lot of work. These are random files hosted on crappy free porn sites, so don’t be surprised if you have to do a little trial and error to find one that works right.
That’s all you need to know to get a taste of VR porn, but due to the huge file sizes of VR videos, streaming is likely to be choppy, and free movies usually aren’t in the highest resolution—again, awkward, but for free. . To get the best experience, you’ll have to (gasp) pay to watch.
Recommended headsets for watching VR porn:
How to Watch VR Porn Using Meta Quest 3 and 3S
The above instructions for streaming “regular” VR porn work on the Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets, but the “3 Series” has front-facing pass-through camera arrays that add a new dimension to “adult content”: augmented reality.
Enabling pass-through porn can be quite tricky, so here’s a separate post detailing how to get augmented reality porn to work on your Meta Quest 3 and 3S .
How to Watch Porn Using Apple Vision Pro
Apple Vision Pro can easily stream, download and play “regular” videos (both adult and “regular”) on giant virtual reality screens via a web browser, but immersive 3D videos created specifically for virtual or augmented reality cannot will work on your computer. Apple Vision Pro browser.
Part of the problem is that WebXR, a software interface for accessing augmented and virtual reality devices, is not automatically enabled in the Vision Pro browser. Not including WebXR means no VR porn, but it also means you won’t have access to a lot of non-adult VR and AR content like web games, tours, productivity apps, and more.
Here’s how to enable WebXR:
-
Open Settings.
-
Select Applications.
-
Select Safari.
-
Scroll to the bottom of the window and select Advanced.
-
Scroll to the bottom of the window and select Feature Flags.
-
In the XR Experimental Features section, enable the WebXR Device API and the WebXR Manual Input Module.
-
Under WebKit Feature Flags, enable the WebXR Augmented Reality Module and the WebXR GamePads Module.
-
Exit settings.
-
Open Safari, or if it’s already open, refresh the WebXR-enabled page to see if it works.
But even with WebXR enabled, you still can’t run full VR porn videos on Apple Vision Pro—yet. I spoke with Alex Novak from VR porn site SexLikeReal and he said, “A lot of work has been done on our end to make sure everything works with AVP. This is a great video tool. We’ll be releasing a huge update soon.”
Advanced porn viewing in VR
-
Select a VR site. Because VR porn is relatively new, more expensive to produce, and has a smaller audience than “regular” adult videos, there aren’t many sites dedicated to it. Most of them have sample videos for you to watch, and some offer one-day access for a very low price so you can see if you’ll dig in. Check out this list of the most famous manufacturers and make your choice.
-
Have you locked the door?
-
Open your browser, go to your newly selected website, and enter your credit card numbers. Membership fees vary from site to site, but the expected range is between $20 and $30 per month.
From here, you can stream full-length videos in very high quality, but streaming can still be choppy. If so…
-
Download and save the video to your device . These videos can be over 10 gigabytes, so it may take a while.
-
Play video. Major VR headsets have great video browsers, but if you want advanced features, download Skybox for $10. This way, you can easily save videos to your computer and stream them from your computer.
-
Buy the right turntable . Some adult virtual reality sites are configured to work with certain browsers or video players, and they should tell you what to install.
If you want to really take things a step further, you can delve into the world of ( link – NSFW ) virtual reality sex toys . These are devices designed to vibrate and oscillate in sync with video. I have no idea how well they work and I don’t really want to find out.
Is virtual reality porn useful?
Now that you know how to watch virtual reality porn, you should ask yourself if you should do it. The immersive you-there virtual reality experience provides an experience that is markedly different from traditional porn, but not necessarily better. Like everything of this sort, it comes down to personal taste. I’ve checked out a bit of stuff (for research purposes only, of course) and without going into too much detail, here are the pros and cons:
Fixed perspective. The idea of putting the viewer right into the action means that the camera is tied to your perspective. If you like that kind of thing, this is the gravy for you, but if you don’t…well, you tried it.
Performance: The camera/you feel very close to the performers in VR porn videos, and the illusion is quite convincing, but actually selling that closeness requires acting talent. It’s a very different kind of performance than in film or on stage, and at the risk of being negative, many pornographic film performers don’t have the strength to really pull it off, so it can come off as weird rather than sexy. Again, your mileage may vary.
Limited Content: Since VR videos are more expensive and difficult to make, and the audience is smaller, it seems that almost all VR porn is aimed at a mainstream porn audience. If you share the tastes of most porn viewers, you’ll be happy. If you’re into something more esoteric, you may find it difficult or impossible to find something you like, at least until more perverts join the virtual world.
Gender Bending: Most virtual reality porn is aimed at straight men, but not all. There is VR porn from a queer perspective, which provides perhaps the most unique opportunity of VR porn: putting yourself in someone else’s shoes. Looking down at yourself and seeing a different body (the one that doesn’t miss abs day) is weird enough, but looking down and seeing a body of the other gender is just freaky in the best way. I can only imagine that this will lead to a new era of empathy and the end of sexism and homophobia.
For couples? In reality, most porn will be watched alone, but some couples will put on headsets (and perhaps other devices) and incorporate the virtual into their real-life sex life together. I think the actual experience of wearing a headset would be a little ridiculous, but maybe I’m just old-fashioned.
