WhatsApp Now Lets You Call Selected Group Chat Participants

WhatsApp is unarguably the most popular messaging app in the world . You likely use it to message friends and family around the world, and while most of the messages are likely text messages, you probably also use the app for audio and video calls. ( Whatsapp claims that two billion calls are made on the app every day .) The next time you open WhatsApp on your phone or computer to make a call, you might notice some changes—mostly for the better.

Select specific group chat members to call

Sometimes the text messages become too much and you want to break up the group chat into a call. However, there are times when not all chat participants need (or want) to participate in the conversation. However, this call button has always been an all-or-nothing concept: you press it and call everyone in the group – whether you like it or not.

However, WhatsApp now allows users to choose which group chat participants should be included in the call. This is a great upgrade for breaking out some of the chat—whether you’re trying not to disturb friends who are working or sleeping, or just chatting.

Your calls should look better

WhatsApp says the new update means calls are more “robust” and now have higher resolution, although the company hasn’t specified how high that resolution actually is. These updates apply to group chats and one-to-one calls on both desktop and mobile devices.

It’s easier to start a call on your desktop

WhatsApp says it has improved the Calls tab in the WhatsApp desktop app. Now, by going to this tab, you’ll be able to start a call, create a call link, and dial a specific number, although the company is working on eliminating phone numbers entirely .

Ten new effects for video calls

Such ads always go over my head – I just never use them. But for all the WhatsApp users who also like video calling effects, here are 10 new ones you can try. WhatsApp has highlighted a new puppy ear filter, an underwater setting, as well as a new karaoke filter that places the microphone in front of you.
