The Next Game From the Studio Behind “The Last of Us” Is a Space-Age Game Full of Brands

What if brands were in space? That seems to be the main question posed by Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet , the next game from The Last of Us creators Naughty Dog.

In the closing presentation of the 10th Annual Game Awards, a show that also announced The Witcher IV , a PC port of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth , and a sequel to the cult classic calligraphy game Okami , Sony’s flagship studio in its renaissance of narrative games revealed that it I remembered that I could do something other than zombies.

The Intergalactic trailer featured a lot of product placement, including clear Porsche, Sony and Adidas logos, and was filled with ’80s nostalgia. This is another CRT in space story that I personally am not so sure about after watching Alien: Romulus tries its best to give my favorite horror series the Force Awakens treatment, but seems to have a significantly lighter tone than Naughty Dog has been done for years now. As a fan of “Jack and Daxter,” this may still surprise me.

Additionally, the trailer was quite sparse on details, instead aiming to evoke feelings more than anything else. The combat, oddly enough, seems to be focused on close combat: in the final seconds, the heroine of the trailer faces a hulking robot with a non-lightsaber. I’m getting a soul vibe, but to know for sure, I need a gameplay trailer – the trailer also features the main character wielding a gun at one point.

According to Naughty Dog , the studio has been working on the game since 2020, and yes, the detailed, expensive-looking graphics of the trailer definitely show that development time has increased. I have never seen such a lovingly designed Pet Shop Boys CD in my life.

All jokes aside, Naughty Dog’s rise from Jak & Daxter developer to inspiration for the hit HBO series is impressive, and Intergalactic appears to be doing its best to combine that old-school cartoon camp with the studio’s newfound prestige. The release date is still unknown – presumably Sony is working on securing another deal with the brand before the next trailer is released.
