Ciri Will Play a Major Role in the Witcher 4
Following on from its neo-noir sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 , CD Projekt RED returns to its roots with The Witcher IV , its first full main game in the dark fantasy series inspired by fairy tales since 2015.
The sequel’s arrival marked the start of the 10th annual Game Awards, a combined trailer and awards festival (to be fair, bigger than the first) that served as something of a spiritual successor to E3 after the show’s unceremonious death during the pandemic. .

Like The Witcher 3 , The Witcher 4 is a single-player RPG, but unlike its predecessors, this time Geralt will not be our main monster hunter. Instead, his student and adopted daughter Ciri will take the reins as the protagonist.
While today’s trailer didn’t show any gameplay, IGN , which is owned by the same parent company as Lifehacker , is offering exclusive interviews that go into more detail about what players can expect from both the game as a whole and its story .
The Witcher 3 received high praise when it released in 2015 and currently has a score of 92 on Metacritic . In particular, critics praised the game’s approach to storytelling, side quests, and open world design.
Based on the short episode shown so far, all of those pillars appear to be intact: Today’s trailer shows Ciri taking a job in a rural village and facing some unexpected consequences for saving the “chosen one” from a monster attack.
Beyond the game itself, tech fans also have something to look forward to: The trailer also included a small note that said its videos were “pre-rendered in Unreal Engine 5 on an unannounced Nvidia GeForce RTX GPU.” While the game’s release window is still up in the air, the note confirms that the developers have already gotten their hands on the anticipated RTX 5000 series of GPUs, indicating that PC gamers could see concrete details about their launch as early as CES next month.
