IOS 18.2 Is Here With New Apple Intelligence Features

The latest update for iPhone, iPad and Mac is officially available. Today, after nearly two months of beta testing, Apple is releasing iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS 15.2 to all compatible devices. Here’s what’s new.

New Apple Intelligence features

Apple debuted Apple Intelligence, its suite of generative artificial intelligence features, in iOS 18.1 . While users with compatible devices could try out features like AI-enabled Siri, writing tools, and Magic Eraser-style cleaning, many of the advertised Apple Intelligence capabilities were hidden. The company is rolling out AI features in batches, presumably to give certain options more time to process while also limiting the number of users who have access to the new AI tools at any given time.

With iOS 18.2, a number of important Apple Intelligence features become available on eligible iPhones, iPads, and Macs:

  • Image Playground is an AI-powered image generator built into Apple apps like Messages, Keynote, and Freeform.

  • Genmoji is a feature that allows you to create your own emoji using artificial intelligence and share them with friends.

  • Image Wand , which turns rough sketches, lettering or text into AI art.

  • Describe Your Change is a new Writing Tools feature that lets you tell Apple Intelligence how you want to rewrite or change text.

  • ChatGPT integration , so you can ask the bot to help with text composition, image recognition and document processing.

  • If you have an iPhone 16, you also have access to Visual Intelligence , which can tell you a lot about your surroundings. You can point the camera at something in front of you, such as a sign in a foreign language, and Visual Intelligence will translate it for you.

Check out our in-depth article for more information on the new Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.2. As a reminder, Apple Intelligence is not available on all iPhones running iOS 18.2. The above AI features are only compatible with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 devices.

Other new features in iOS 18.2

This update isn’t just limited to Apple Intelligence. Apple is also introducing other new features available to all iPhones running iOS 18, not just the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16.

The Mail app now includes Mail Categorization, which automatically sorts your messages and tries to prioritize the most important ones, and Digest View, which groups messages by sender.

In the Photos app, you can now view videos frame by frame and turn off auto-looping (so the video doesn’t continue to play after it’s finished). Apple has also made some improvements to the app: you can swipe right to go back to the previous view in Collections; clear album history in the “Recently Viewed” and “Recently Published” sections; and find your Favorites album in Utilities, as well as pinned collections.

When you open Safari after the update, you’ll see new background images that you can choose for your Start page. (Apple hasn’t added to these for a while.) You can now export browsing data and import browsing data from another browser into Safari. Apple now defaults to HTTPS for URLs instead of HTTP whenever possible (so more visits to your website will be encrypted), and you’ll now see download progress on your iPhone’s dynamic island.

There are also a number of different features and changes in the rest of iOS:

  • On iPhone 16 Pro, you can record over voice memos to effectively create a two-track recording that can be imported into Logic Pro.

  • You can share your Find My devices, such as AirTag, with a trusted third party, such as your airline.

  • You can search for things in Apple Music and the Apple TV app in natural language, and the app will understand what you’re looking for.

  • You can set your favorite podcast categories for personalized recommendations, and a new personalized search page offers additional recommendations.

  • News+ Puzzles now offers Sudoku

  • Apple has expanded the heartbeat test for AirPods Pro 2 to Cyprus, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Romania, Spain, the United Arab Emirates and the UK.

  • In the Stocks section, you’ll now see pre-market price quotes to track NASDAQ and NYSE tickers before the market opens.

There are also a few bug fixes: Apple has addressed an issue that prevented new photos from appearing in all photos, as well as an issue that caused Night Mode photos to appear “degraded” when taking long exposure photos on the iPhone 16 Pro.
