This Is What a Paid Bluesky Subscription Might Look Like

Bluesky wants a lot now . One of these advantages is that it is completely free to join and use the site. There’s nothing behind a paywall that separates paying users from others: what you see is what you get.

However, times may change. As TechCrunch reports , Bluesky is actively working on a subscription model for its platform, currently called Bluesky+. This isn’t necessarily earth-shattering news: back in October, the company announced plans to offer users a paid subscription , while promising that a free version would always be available. What’s new, however, are the pricing plans for this subscription model, as well as the features you’ll get if you decide to pay.

What will a Bluesky+ subscription give you?

The company has published a mock-up of a subscription page that it can show to users interested in Bluesky+. Based on this screenshot, paid users can enjoy the following perks:

  • Bluesky+ profile icon

  • Custom app icons

  • Profile Settings

  • Higher video upload limits

  • High video resolution

  • Built-in post translation (coming soon)

  • Post-analysis (coming soon)

  • Bookmark folders (coming soon)

One Bluesky developer responded to a post about the mockup warning users that these features may “not be what will be released.” However, Bluesky has previously discussed the possibility of offering features such as higher quality videos and profile customization (like custom colors and borders for profile pictures) for a theoretical paid subscription, so it wouldn’t be surprising if some (or all) of these features launch with Bluesky +.

Items marked “coming soon” aren’t actually delayed either: none of these features are available yet, so the last three won’t necessarily take longer to arrive than the others. The Bluesky developers just wanted to test the “Coming Soon” banner.

Don’t be put off by Bluedsky+’s “profile icon.” The same developer confirmed that these icons have nothing to do with verification . Bluesky won’t follow X’s terrible example of giving anyone with a subscription a badge, making it useless for actually verifying an account.

How much does a Bluesky+ subscription cost?

Another layout offers Bluesky+ as one of two different subscriptions: you can spend $8 per month or $72 per year, saving $24 over a monthly subscription for a year.

Again, none of this is set in stone and could change dramatically by the time the company is ready to release Bluesky+. But it does give a good idea of what the company – or at least certain parts of the company – are thinking at the moment.
