Your Verizon Bill Just Got a Little More Expensive
If you pay close attention to your Verizon bill this month, next to the nebulous “Administration and Telecom Restoration Fee,” you’ll notice that you’re paying 20 cents more for voice and data line than before, which a representative confirmed Verizon Greg. From Coroneos to Grani .
The increase, as minor as it may appear at first glance, increases the total administrative fee per voice line to $3.50 and the total administrative fee per data line to $1.60.
So, you’ll have to transfer Verizon for a couple more quarters every month – what’s the big deal? Well, this reduction follows a larger increase in administrative fees just two years ago , when voice line prices rose from $1.95 to $3.30. At the same time, Verizon also applied a new “economic adjustment fee” to some business accounts, resulting in those customers being charged an additional $2.20 per line and an additional 98 cents for each phone and tablet on the account.
It all starts to add up after a while. So what is the reason for these changes? In a statement to CNET following the $1.35 price increase in 2022, Verizon said, “We review and make adjustments to fees from time to time to cover certain Verizon administrative, telecommunications and compliance costs.”
Well, that clears things up!
As a New Yorker, I can’t help but be reminded of the regular MTA fare increases. They usually land every few years or so and increase prices by 15 to 20 cents for each increase. The most recent, from August 2023 , raised subway and bus fares from $2.75 to $2.90, and while that may not seem like much at first glance, the extra 15 cents for two trips per day during a five-day workweek adds up to an extra fee. 75 cents a week overall. Multiply that over a full year, with new rates increasing regularly, and you can see why people will start to get upset.
I figure that at least with this change you only pay the extra fee once a month.
