Your Google Pixel May Be Ignoring the Charging Limit
Google recently added charging limits for Pixel phones, allowing users to keep their devices from charging above 80% to preserve battery health in the long run. Charging to 100% every time can drain the battery and shorten its life, but sometimes your Pixel will still charge to 100% even if you set the limit to 80%. This is because your device sometimes needs a full charge to calibrate its capacity and accurately estimate battery life. (Applehas the ability to override the charging limit on its devices for the same purpose.)
If your Pixel ignores its assigned charge limit, it’s a feature, not a bug. But you can (and probably should) use the battery optimization settings if you don’t already want to keep your battery healthy for as long as possible.
How to change charging limits on your Pixel
To set (or turn off) the 80% charge limit on your Pixel, go to Settings > Battery > Charge Optimization . Turn on charging optimization, then select Limit to 80% . You can also choose adaptive charging, which will pause at 80% and then ramp up to 100% “before you would normally go offline.”
The iPhone has a similar feature : owners of older devices can choose an 80% cap or “optimized battery charging” that charges based on your usage habits. Anyone with an iPhone 15 or later model can get more detailed information, with charging limits set to 80%, 85%, 90%, or 95%. Go to Settings > Battery > Charging to customize your settings.
