Samsung Glasses Coming in 2025 (Probably)

Smart glasses aren’t a new idea, but as Ray-Ban’s Meta Glasses show, they’re now at the point where they work well without looking terrible. As the technology improves and becomes cheaper, more models are likely to appear, including a pair from Samsung in the near future.

These Samsung smart glasses haven’t been unveiled yet, but people in the know suggest they could debut in 2025. Here’s everything confirmed and rumored about the wearable so far.

What Samsung said

Samsung itself hasn’t said that smart features will be coming, but the company has officially said that it is working on XR products: an extended reality that embraces the digital worlds of virtual reality (VR), a hybrid of the digital and the real. these are augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR), which is a combination of VR and AR.

Go back to the Samsung Unpacked event in February 2023 and you’ll see that Samsung, Google and Qualcomm announced they were teaming up to create some kind of XR hardware, although there weren’t a lot of details at the time. . From then until now, there has been no further information until recently.

At Unpacked in July 2024, we learned that the XR platform was in development , and in September, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon went on record saying that Samsung smart glasses are absolutely on the agenda. They will apparently be linked to a smartphone and offer a “completely new experience” – partly powered by artificial intelligence, of course. Amon said the features will be different from the Apple Vision Pro, but similar to Ray-Ban Meta Glasses.

And that’s pretty much all that’s officially known for now – so we know Samsung smart glasses are on the way, but that’s about it. We’re still waiting for a release date, specs list, and any pricing information (by comparison, Ray-Ban Meta Glasses start at $300).

What the rumors say

There’s little official news, but there are all sorts of rumors and speculation, with one South Korean media outlet reporting that Samsung’s smart specs will arrive in January with the Samsung Galaxy S25 phones, at least in prototype form. The glasses are expected to go on sale in the third quarter of 2025 (this will be in July, August or September).

According to insider information, the smart glasses will weigh 50 grams and will support gesture control, contactless payments and artificial intelligence-based facial recognition, although it is not yet clear what exactly this will include. An earlier Korean media report compared it to Ray-Ban Meta Glasses and mentioned a Qualcomm AR1 processor and a 12-megapixel camera with a Sony image sensor.

Flash forward again to 2023, when Samsung trademarked Samsung Glasses. This gives us a strong hint about the name – although it’s strange that there’s no word “Galaxy” like there is in the Samsung Galaxy Ring . Meanwhile, a patent filed this year points to “augmented reality glasses and/or a head-mounted device” that can move through physical space and display information in front of the user’s eyes.

So here it is: Qualcomm and Samsung say smart glasses are on the way, and there are rumors that we could see them as early as next month, although they probably won’t go on sale for a while. Other details are few and far between, but existing AR glasses like Ray-Ban Meta Glasses and the new Xreal One Pro give us some ideas of what Samsung might have to offer.
