Spotify Has Completed 2024 and It’s All About Artificial Intelligence

Spotify Wrapped 2024 is finally here —and not all at once. It appears that most of Spotify’s competitors, including Apple Music , YouTube Music , and even Amazon Music , have already released their 2024 annual reports. But if you subscribe to the world’s most popular music streaming service, it’s your turn to take stock of your year of listening. .

As with previous years’ Wrapped, your report includes basic listening statistics, including your top artists and songs of the year, as well as the total number of minutes you listened to Spotify. However, in 2024, Spotify is offering something different: in addition to the standard graphics you can share with friends, the service now offers an ” AI Podcast ” to recap the past year.

Spotify Wrapped 2024 has quite a few artificial intelligence features

Here’s how it works: two artificial “hosts” go back and forth discussing the songs, artists, and genres you’ve been listening to throughout the year 2024. Based on Spotify’s press release, it appears that the podcast isn’t very long—just under four minutes—though it’s unclear whether the playback length varies based on a user’s overall listening habits. Either way, you’ll find your AI podcast on the home page of your Spotify app, which you can share with friends (provided you agree to make the “podcast” public). It is available in English for free and premium users in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland and Sweden.

Spotify says the podcast is built using Google’s NotebookLM model, which makes sense: you can use that model to create your own AI-powered podcasts based on whatever content you want . You can share web links, PDFs, text and more, and create a fake podcast that discusses all the sources.

Plus, if you subscribe to Premium, your AI DJ will comment on your 2024 listening history, as well as tell you about the best songs and artists of the year on Spotify. This feature is available in both English and Spanish. You can also ask Spotify to create an AI playlist based on your Wrapped results. For example, you can request a playlist with your top five genres, or a playlist with artists similar to those on your top lists.

What else can you expect from Wrapped results?

Of course, this is not just about artificial intelligence functions. Spotify has a number of benefits coming this year. There’s “Your Musical Evolution,” which outlines up to three “musical phases” you’ve gone through this year (and includes a playlist with highlighted songs); “Your Top Artist Reimagined,” which shows you your top artist of the year, as well as the percentage of listeners you listened to that artist; a playlist of your best music videos, if your region supports video; messages from your favorite artists (Spotify’s press release highlights Peso Plume, ROSÉ, Billie Eilish, Usher, Sabrina Carpenter and Karol G, but says thousands more are participating); messages from podcasters such as the creators of Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain, Crime Junkie, Distractible, Diary of the CEO with Stephen Bartlett; and additional playlists created by Spotify’s music editors.
