Like many people, my approach to shopping involves me spending hours finding things I want, adding them to my cart, and then… doing nothing. I wait and wait for the sale to start and then immediately put my cart away. The majority of my Amazon cart is made up of household items, from organizational tools to functional decor, and since these types of purchases aren’t cheap, I’m really taking my time. I’ll admit, I get a little overzealous during major shopping holidays – which is exactly what I’m doing this week in honor of Black Friday. Here’s what I do to make my home more organized and useful.

I was thrilled to see that some of the items in my cart had been reduced in price for this week’s shopping holiday. First up, this is a great storage ottoman that’s currently $28.79. It was originally $35.99 so it’s down about $7 which is about right for me. I’m a big proponent of using storage furniture , that is, functional furniture that also hides shelves or other space inside, to keep my home organized and not look cluttered, so I’m always on the lookout for new pieces. The less of my little things you see when you come, the happier I am. I plan to store my lightweight sofa blanket here and the ottoman will look much edgier than a blanket thrown over the back of the sofa.
Additionally, I’m also getting a smaller storage mirror than the one I already have ( which I’ve raved about on multiple occasions ). I currently use a full-length lighted mirror that opens up to accommodate jewelry and larger items like hairspray. This smaller size, marked down from $45.99 to $38.75, also opens up to reveal jewelry storage, but I plan to use it for small lotions and other trinkets and plan to add it to a gallery wall I’ve been creating in my living room. (Bonus: The pink frame I want for my recently purchased master’s degree, which is also hanging on the gallery wall, is also on sale for $14.24.)
As is abundantly clear to anyone who has ever read my home decor articles, I love color coordinating my living space. The current theme of my apartment is pink and gold. There are a few hard and fast rules that I follow when organizing my home. Firstly, everything should be stored with the same items, and secondly, each category needs a designated space. I’ve mentioned this before, but a few months ago I decided to start buying cheap rugs because I was constantly getting mine dirty.
