You Can Get the Whoop Band With a 12-Month Subscription for $199.
The Whoop Strap is a screenless strap that can be worn on a bracelet, armband, or tucked into a variety of custom clothing items. I recently pitted it against the Oura Ring to find the best watch-free fitness tracker , and Whoop was the hands-down winner. One of the decisive blows in this battle was the cost of the equipment and annual subscription of only $239. Now, during the company’s Black Friday sale, you can get the same deal for just $199. That’s less than $17 a month for the first year with “free” hardware.
You can get this price in an easy-to-gift package by purchasing the Amazon version , which comes with a black (“Onyx”) strap and includes the first year of your prepaid subscription. Or, if you want a more personalized experience, go to Whoop.com and choose the colors and accessories you like. (Colors are more expensive, however, even on Whoop’s main site.) Whoop is also offering a discount on a two-year membership of $359 instead of $399.
If you were already thinking about buying the Whoop for $239, here’s what I’d do: Get the deal for $199, then add the bicep band for $43.20 (regularly $54). This allows you to wear the Whoop on your shoulder while keeping it away from your wrist—great if you don’t like wearing a watch , or if you enjoy wearing a watch so much that you already have one you’d like to wear.
With this combination, you get a Whoop device, a year’s subscription , and a bicep bracelet for about $242—just $3 more than you would have paid, say, last week for the device and subscription without the brace. However, there are also third-party accessories available, such as the $15.99 Yeahxing Biceps Band .
Why use Whoop? In addition to being cheaper than the Oura ring, it also tracks your heart rate fairly well during exercise (though not as good as a chest strap or most Garmin devices) and has an excellent system for measuring your recovery after strength training (significantly improved compared to when I first tested this feature). It has extensive capabilities for tracking what improves your sleep and recovery over time (if alcohol is interfering with your sleep, you’ll know), and it’s also packed with recommendations and coaching features to help you get the most out of your sleep and exercise. If you don’t need a watch and are choosing your device based on features and price, you can read my comparison of Whoop and Oura here .
But if you’re ready to consider purchasing a watch, you might want to consider one of the options that have a screen and don’t require the high cost of a subscription. Luckily, there are plenty of deals on other fitness trackers , such as the Apple Watch and Garmins, that also have sleep tracking.
