Your Amazon Music Unlimited Subscription Now Includes a Free Monthly Audiobook
When it comes to music streaming services, Spotify is the undisputed champion. So when the company added 15 hours of audiobooks per month to its Premium plans a year ago, competitors had to step up their game: Amazon Music Unlimited , Amazon’s music streaming platform, now lets you borrow an audiobook from Audible every month using Amazon Music. Unlimited subscription at no additional cost.
Audiobooks come directly from Audible , Amazon’s audiobook platform, but there is an important difference between listening to audiobooks on Amazon Music Unlimited and Audible. Audible gives you one audiobook credit per month, allowing you to keep the audiobook forever, even if you cancel your subscription. Amazon Music Unlimited lets you borrow an audiobook for a month, so it disappears after the month. Of course, you can take the same book again if you want.
This approach makes sense from a business strategy perspective because it doesn’t make Audible redundant and could encourage music subscribers to migrate to the Audible platform. If you’re a Prime member, Amazon Music Unlimited costs $10 per month or $99 . If you’re not a Prime member, it costs $11 per month. Subscribers in the US, UK and Canada will have access to this new benefit; If you have a family plan, it will only be available to the primary account holder.
Remember, you can always sign up for a three-month trial of Amazon Music Unlimited if you want to try out the free monthly audiobooks. If you’re wondering what the Audible catalog looks like, you can check it out here .
Personally, I’m not impressed with the selection of audiobooks on Spotify: most of the books that interest me are under lock and key. If you’re interested in a music and audiobook subscription with the best catalog of audiobooks, consider using Amazon Music Unlimited instead of Spotify.
