According to Google, These Are the 100 Most Popular Products in 2024.
Google has released a list of the 100 most popular products – and if you’re a data nerd like me, you might find this interesting.
While you’re probably already inundated with buying guides, they’re mostly created by companies telling you to buy something or by reporters who’ve tested a limited portion of what’s out there. On the other hand, Google has a data set of 45 billion product listings and can analyze trends in more detail – although they are also trying to sell you things, they have a much larger inventory. What struck me most wasn’t what people were searching for, but how search volume for some of these products skyrocketed, often thanks to TikTok or a single news article.
Most of the products mentioned have always been popular, but this year their popularity has reached an all-time high. This is not a revelation: the year of searching for LEGO was successful, but it always happens, just like nail polish, slippers and OPI home gardens. Much more interesting to me were individual products from those categories that experienced a huge surge in search queries. For example, searches for Pillowsac , a large bean bag chair from Lovesac, increased by 665%; Searches for Elf Cosmetics’ Halo Glow Liquid Filter have increased by 5,000%.
Retro toys have seen a huge boom
Despite all the buzz surrounding the latest game, the most popular term for handheld consoles was “retro.” If you’re looking for something that fits that bill, this rechargeable console has 218 classic games and is one of the most popular on Amazon. The number of searches for “children’s lamps” increased by 95%. Searches for children’s scooters are up nearly 100%, with Google recommending this scooter for Playdoh pizza delivery .
If you haven’t heard of Tony yet, you will. Requests for this playset have increased by 5,000% this year. There are many Toniebox starter sets like this version of The Cat in the Hat . If you’re looking for a classic, the Vermont Teddy Bear is the most popular bear every year.
Unusual gifts
Speaking of retro, turntables are back, with a 50% increase in search volume this year. Searches for “small portable speakers” are up 75% this year, and my favorite is the Sonos Roam 2 . It’s no surprise that the Playstation Portal Remote has become a popular console this year. LEGO is consistently one of the most popular toy searches, with Google recommending this Tuxedo Cat set. Spice up your picnics with a cooler backpack that’s seen a 60% increase in searches.
Gifts for active types
Merrell hiking boots appear to be the “boot” of the year, with searches up 165%. They are available for men and women in all styles. Yoga mats go up in price every January, so give one as a gift. Walking pads are at an all-time high this year, and while you’re at it, you might want to throw on the Nike Motiva sneakers , which are also quite popular.
Beauty and spa products
In addition to the elf highlighter, searches for S’ABLE skincare products like the Labs Essentials Kit are up 5,000%, as is Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair . Searches for overnight lip masks like this one from Burt’s Bees have increased by 70%. “Skin care for men” has also seen huge growth, so check out products like Kiehl’s Facial Fuel for Men. The same can be said for “unisex fragrances” such as Maison Margiela .
Home Improvements
A charming new addition is the Our Place Wonder Oven , a six-in-one countertop appliance that air-fries, steams, bakes and does homework for the kids (jk). This year, searches for this particular model have increased by 50%. Ice cream manufacturers increased search volume by 60%; I have trusted Cuisinart for many years. Diptyque continues to be the most popular candle brand, and heated towel rails are also growing in popularity .
