This is not one of those e-bikes that looks and handles like a motorcycle. This is a great bike both in looks and power. This is a Class 1 e-bike so there is no throttle and the assist speed tops out at 20mph. The motor is very quiet and the removable battery is hidden discreetly in the downtube, making it easily comparable to a non-electric bike; you won’t feel out of place on a soft mixed-use bike path. Subjectively, it’s a good-looking machine, albeit in an understated way: it has a classic bike look, with an aluminum frame in four matte colors and a dual LED headlight integrated into the top tube to give it a little pizzazz.
Riding the CGO600 Pro
The CGO may be a simple bike, but Tenways has clearly paid attention to the little details that make the difference: the grips are comfortable, the pedals are wide, and the seatpost and handlebars are easy to adjust so you can customize it for yourself and/or lend it to someone else. There is even a small bell attached to the steering wheel. This is a single speed bike so there is no need to worry and/or adjust gears. There’s not even a chain – the CGO600 uses a Gates Carbon belt drive instead, so it’s grease-free and won’t ruin your trousers. More importantly, Tenways claims the belt is “maintenance free for 18,600 miles.” I haven’t driven it that far, so I’ll take their word for it.
The CGO600 is agile and responsive. There’s no suspension, but even if the board is uneven, the aluminum frame provides enough flexibility that your teeth won’t chatter.
It’s also light. Weighing just 41 pounds with battery, it’s light enough that unassisted riding is a smart option; To be honest, this is not an option that I chose very often because the transmission is accurate.
What’s under the hood of the CGO600 Pro?
The CGO 600’s torque-sensitive drive system transfers power from the rear hub drive smoothly and quietly, but the 350W motor is surprisingly peppy despite its unobtrusiveness. Pedaling at speeds up to 20 mph on level ground feels easy and natural; There’s no sudden surge of torque like on less advanced e-bikes, instead of feeling like the motor is pushing your bike, you feel like you have very strong legs. There are only three levels of assistance compared to the usual five that e-bikes offer, but I never felt like the power level was “missing.”
The claimed range on a full battery is “up to 53 miles”, but this depends on how much you pedal, the level of assistance, hills, your weight and many other factors; impossible to really estimate. However, the light weight and torque-sensing configuration mean the battery lasts a long time, and while it never reached 53 miles in my test rides, battery life is good.
The assist gets you up to speeds of 20 mph, but I hit 35 mph on this bike and not once did the CGO600 feel wobbly or out of control. Of course, that 35 mph was on the downhill; Pedaling uphill requires some effort. Small city inclines aren’t a problem, but big hills will bring you face to face with the single-speed problem: Bikes have gears for a reason, and a big hill will make you wish you had a granny gear to shift into. .
In keeping with the minimalist aesthetic, the CGO600’s built-in OLED display is tiny in size. It shows how much battery you have left, your speed, and which of the three assist levels you’re using in a bright black and white rectangle that’s not much larger than the watch face. If you want to get more technical, there’s a companion app that tracks your rides. It also tracks the location of your bike, so if someone makes off with it, you can steal it back.
Bottom line: The CGO600 Pro is a reliable, proven bike.
