The Sonos Sub Wireless Subwoofer Is $160 Off Right Now
If you’re already invested in the Sonos ecosystem, the Sonos Sub wireless subwoofer currently ranges from $799 to $639 and could be a great addition to your system. Its unique design includes a central rectangular slot that looks cool but also serves a purpose: allowing the dual force-compensated subwoofer drivers to produce deep, rich bass. Just be sure to give it some breathing room, since keeping it too close to an object or wall can affect its performance, according to a PCMag review . The subwoofer reportedly drops down to 25Hz, so you’ll feel the bass down to your bones. In addition, the maximum crossover frequency of 110 Hz provides a wide audio range.
Setting it up is easy with the Sonos app, which walks you through the process and can optionally calibrate the subwoofer’s output based on the acoustics of your room. In the app, you can control all of the subwoofer’s settings, including adjusting the volume and turning it on and off. You can also adjust the crossover frequency—starting at 80Hz by default, but adjusting it from 50Hz to 110Hz—to suit your space and get the best sound. It also rests on four self-adhesive feet to reduce vibrations reaching the floor, but how well this works may depend on the type of floor you place it on. You can position it either vertically or horizontally (although the adhesive legs remain permanent once attached).
The subwoofer is only compatible with Sonos speakers, so if you’re not already part of the Sonos ecosystem, it might not be for you. It can’t connect wirelessly to third-party speakers, and it doesn’t have physical connections for a subwoofer output. And while it does have an Ethernet port, you’ll have to buy a network cable separately, although it works well over Wi-Fi if your router is reliable. If you’re looking for an alternative, the $229.95 JBL Bar 2.1 may be a more economical option.
