Samsung Odyssey Ark Is Now $1,200 Off

The Samsung Odyssey Ark (2nd generation) is a massive 55-inch 4K curved display that’s hard to ignore, literally and figuratively, especially now that its price has dropped from $2,999 to $1,799. The 1000R curvature makes the screen appear even larger, and built-in surround sound is said to enhance the immersive gaming experience. However, if you like a colorful setup, there’s no RGB lighting here, although its subtle eclipse light gives it a discreet glow.

PCMag’s in-depth review of the Samsung Odyssey Ark highlights that its VA panel delivers deep blacks and improved contrast, although it lags behind IPS panels in color accuracy. This may not be a deal-breaker for gaming, but if you’re working with color-sensitive tasks, it can be frustrating. On the other hand, its 3840×2160 pixel display, Quantum Mini LEDs and 165Hz refresh rate are excellent specs, and the matte finish helps reduce glare. And while the Ark’s input lag is low, reviewers note that it may not be low enough for serious gamers. However, the ability to split the big screen into four virtual monitors and/or switch it to portrait mode is a multitasker’s dream: you can game, stream, surf the web, and watch TV all at the same time.

If this monitor seems like overkill for your needs, the $448 Vizio M50QXM-K01 could be a solid budget alternative. It’s smaller and less exciting, but may be suitable for a more modest setup.
