Four of My Favorite Robotic Lawnmowers Are up for Sale for October’s Launch Day

I think Prime’s big sales are the perfect excuse to snag that gadget or tool you’ve been wanting to add to your home. If you already own a robot vacuum, then you should definitely take advantage of October’s Prime Day to splurge on a robot lawn mower at a fantastic price. Let’s put the arguments to rest now: Yes, robotic lawn mowers are a luxury, but they also allow people with disabilities to maintain their yard and eliminate housework for people with limited time. Even at regular prices, if you amortize the cost of maintaining the yard, they are worth it, but on sale they are a bargain. Share your shiny new robot with a neighbor and the cost becomes negligible.

I’ve tested a lot of these lawn mowers this summer, and some work better than others, but here are a few things that I personally look for. I prefer a lawnmower that allows you to set a virtual boundary by walking the robot around the area, rather than letting the robot try to figure things out on its own. Most of these robots advertise the type of slope they can handle, but what turns out to be a much more important metric is how they handle small uneven spots or potholes in the lawn. What none of these lawn mowers did to ease your fears was mow down flower beds, attack pets or children on the sidewalk, or fall into the street.

In other words, these aren’t just random mowers on sale: these are the ones I recommend based on last year’s testing. (I haven’t yet tested the first product on this list personally, but I’m familiar enough with the brand to confidently recommend it.)

Husqvarna Automower 430XH Robotic lawn mower

Husqvarna is the first robotic lawn mower company and has a strong reputation in the industry. The problem was that it only sold robots that worked with a ground wire that had to be professionally installed. This resulted in incredibly reliable cutting, but was much more expensive. The 430 is the first attempt to eliminate the ground wire and has excellent reviews. I will be testing this model next spring and I trust it more than many other models.

If you have a small lawn with a lot of obstacles, this is your lawnmower: two large wheels give this baby a good turning radius. This mower handled inclines like a champ and could handle a small dip or hole, but large dips were a no go. But he managed to glide reliably and was not damaged by the rain. I also liked how close it came to borders and raised beds, eliminating the need for cutting ropes later.

Mammotion YUKA 1500 robotic lawnmower

The Mammotion Luba 2 was the most efficient lawnmower I’ve ever tried, and the Yuka, its sequel, improved the Luba by adding the ability to collect grass and leaves and then toss them wherever you want. While a grass trailer will certainly impact your turning radius, it still performs better than all other brands, handling off-road terrain like a champ.

If you don’t mind leaving the grass clippings in place (remember, the robot wipes away the grass, so it looks like confetti on the lawn, not like how your current lawn mower works), then the Luba 2 is still a great option. You have a tighter turning radius than the Yuka, and the Luba loves to tackle difficult terrain. Create multiple zones, put paths between them, and now there’s even lawn printing so you can mow stars and hearts into your lawn if that’s something you’re interested in. Additionally, Mammotion lawnmowers can be equipped with a 4G SIM card so they can be recovered if stolen.
