This TP-Link Security Camera Is Now $25
The TP-Link Tapo C120 security camera offers amazing value for money – high-quality video, color night vision, IP966 rating, two-way audio, built-in floodlights and smart alerts – all for $24.99 (on sale). from $39.99). Setting up the C120 is relatively simple with the Tapo app, which allows you to control everything from alarms and video playback to brightness and connectivity.
Its 4MP camera starts recording when motion is detected and records 2K video at 20fps and a 120° field of view, so you won’t miss a thing. Plus, it sends you free smart alerts that let you know if it’s spotted a person, pet, vehicle, or anything else. For night vision, it switches between low-intensity infrared LEDs for black and white or built-in floodlights for color. However, nighttime color quality is still a bit muted compared to daytime footage, which is pretty standard for security cameras .
In addition to video capabilities, the TP-Link Tapo C120 also has two-way audio so you can communicate with anyone on the other end of the camera. This can be especially useful for monitoring and interacting with pets, children or a delivery person. To store recordings locally, you’ll need to purchase a separate microSD card (up to 512GB) or subscribe to Tapo Care (from $3.49 per month) if you prefer cloud storage.
While TP-Link claims to support IFTTT, PCMag’s review mentions that they’re having trouble getting the feature to work, so you might want to manage your expectations. And if you’re an avid Apple user, the lack of HomeKit integration may be a deal breaker for you, although Alexa and Google Assistant connectivity works fine. If HomeKit or IFTTT are non-negotiables, Abode Iota’s comprehensive security suite may prove faster, although at $329.99 it’s a much more expensive alternative.
