Walmart’s October Prime Day Sale Won’t Require a Membership

It’s official: All four major retailers have announced their October holiday sales. The main event will be the two-day Amazon Prime Big Deal Days ; all the others were announced in response to this and have overlapping dates, allowing them to compete directly with the online shopping giant.

Today, Walmart became the latest to officially announce its own Prime Day-themed promotion , and there’s good news for those of you who are reluctant to pay for a membership to take advantage of the sale—it’s a free for all. .

What (and when) is the Walmart Prime Day October Competitive Sale?

Walmart’s answer to Amazon’s Big Deal Days is a six-day sale that starts on October 8th (the same day as Amazon’s Big Deal Days) at 12 a.m. ET and runs through October 13th. You can shop online or in person, and you can find deals on almost everything they sell that you can’t eat.

Do you need to be a member to shop Walmart’s October Sale?

Unlike Amazon or Best Buy (and similar to Target), you can participate in all of Walmart’s holiday sales without being a paid member. However, Walmart+ members will get a 12-hour head start (online exclusively) on deals over everyone else. Becoming a Walmart+ member costs $98 per year, but you can always get a 30-day free trial.

What deals can you expect during Walmart’s October Sale?

In addition to Walmart and Amazon, Target has ” Circle Week ,” an entire week of deals starting October 6th for Circle members ( which are also free to join ). Best Buy’s sale , which lasts almost a full month and includes five different events, starts on September 27 and runs until October 25, and you’ll need to be a paying member to get the best deals.

Amazon will likely control the lion’s share of the day’s spending, but each retailer usually has one or two killer deals that beat the others, so it’s worth planning ahead if you’ve got your eye on any big-ticket items.
