Super Productivity Is My Favorite (Free) Task Management App.
There are endless productivity apps out there that you can pay for if that’s what you want. It’s rare to find a completely free and high-quality application. Super Productivity may be an exception.
Available for Windows, Linux, Mac, and Android devices, this free, open-source app combines to-do list, time tracking, and time blocking. With it, you can quickly make a list of things you need to do, estimate how long it will take you to do them all, and plan your time accordingly. The app is also designed to track time spent on these tasks, helping you figure out how much time you actually spend on things.
Super Productivity, when opened, shows you an inbox where you can dump tasks as they arise. You can also create projects and post your tasks there if you want. After creating tasks, you can add estimates for their duration and even assign due dates. Then you can go to the Today, Schedule, or Planner sections and get organized.
The basic idea is that you can drag and drop tasks in the order in which you will complete them. The Today section will show you a simple list. The Schedule section will display all of your calendar contents (which can also display appointments from any iCal calendar, including Google and Outlook). And the Planner breaks down the list by day. If you want, you can drag and drop elements from day to day.
Then, when you’re ready to get started, click the Play button in the top right corner. It will start tracking the time it will take you to complete the task that is currently at the top of the list. When you’re done, you can mark the task as completed to stop the timer, at which point you’ll be ready to start the next task. Your different views will show that the tasks are completed.
There are a few more tricks to be found in the settings, including a Pomodoro timer, a tool that regularly reminds you to take breaks, and simple counters for tracking things like how many coffees you drink.
It’s worth noting that this application runs entirely locally – there is no web service. Synchronization is carried out via Dropbox, WebDAV or with other cloud services via a local file. There is additional encryption support. All this means you’ll have to put in some effort if you want to use the app on multiple devices, but considering that the app is free, it’s worth it.
