My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: Google Nest Doorbell
Doors used to have little things called peepholes, but now you can see who’s at your door without leaving the couch. Thank you, video intercoms! The battery-powered Google Nest doorbell is a great option for renters who want a simple, temporary video doorbell that doesn’t require much installation, especially if you already have Google devices in your home.
You can currently purchase the battery-powered Google Nest Doorbell for $99.99 (down from $179.99) or the corded Nest Doorbell for $129.97 (down from $179.99). According to price checker tools, both represent the lowest prices the devices have reached.
While they’re not among the best video doorbells, this Nest doorbell camera offers a 145-degree field of view, 1280 x 960 pixel video at 30 frames per second, and a 3:4 aspect ratio (which shows visitors’ feet so you can will probably be able to see your packages sitting on your porch), night vision, 6x digital zoom, two-way audio, and up to six months of battery life, according to a “good” PCMag review .
Since this is a Google product, it is not compatible with Alexa, HomeKit, or IFTTT. You can see who’s ringing your doorbell on devices like the Google Nest Hub, and hear doorbells on your smart home speakers or phone. The biggest drawback is that recordings are stored in the cloud for free only for the first three hours. If you want to watch all the videos, you’ll need a Nest Aware subscription, which starts at $6 per month or $60 per year.
