Apple Music Now Lets You Transfer Playlists to YouTube Music

Moving your music from one streaming service to another is a simple process, but it usually relies too heavily on third-party tools. There’s always a risk that these tools will go bankrupt or break because your favorite streaming service has changed its code to block them. That’s why Apple Music now officially supports transferring your playlists to YouTube Music. This development was first spotted by MacRumors , and here’s how to take advantage of it.

Limitations of Apple’s Official Transfer Method

While I’m glad to see Apple offering a way to send music to a competitor, I’m not entirely convinced it’s the best way to send your music. This is because Apple Music only allows you to stream playlists you create (including shared playlists). You can’t transfer curated playlists from Apple or other users, which can make transferring your entire library difficult. I have over 50 playlists that I’ve painstakingly created in Apple Music, and while I really enjoy using this method to back up to YouTube Music, the rest of my library will be left in the dust.

You can get around these restrictions by using one of these third-party services, which will transfer your entire music library from one service to another for free . While you’re at it, you can also download this app that automatically backs up your Apple Music library .

You’ll have to use a web browser here as it doesn’t work in the Apple Music app. With this in mind, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Apple’s Data and Privacy page and sign in to your Apple account.

  2. Click Request to submit a copy of your data .

  3. On the next page, Apple will verify what you want to export. Select Apple Music playlists and click Next .

  4. The next page will show you how many playlists you can transfer. Click Continue .

  5. In the pop-up window, sign in to your YouTube Music account and allow Apple access to your Google account. Be sure to check the “View and manage YouTube Music data” checkbox.

  6. On the last page, click “Confirm Export” and the process will begin.

  7. Once the transfer is complete, go to the Library tab in YouTube Music and you will see all your playlists there.

This will successfully transfer your Apple Music playlists to YouTube Music. Please remember that this is not a synchronization service. If you add or remove music from Apple Music after transferring, it won’t automatically show up in YouTube Music—you’ll have to transfer it again to see it. Some music may also not be available on YouTube Music, meaning those songs won’t be in your playlists.
