Instagram Is Bringing Back Music From Myspace Profiles

Instagram is the king of “borrowing” features from other platforms. The stories may be related to the social media platform Meta, but it was actually Snapchat that started them. Reels may be a staple of the app today, but they were only added in response to TikTok’s popularity. Now Instagram is borrowing a feature from the long-defunct social network Myspace.

No, Instagram isn’t bringing back friend spots, and you won’t be able to set fantastically cool wallpapers on your page. However, Meta is bringing back a key Myspace feature: profile music. Instagram announced a change to the company’s “creators” Threads account on Thursday, calling the feature “Music on Profile.” It’s a simple feature: you select a song from Instagram’s library, select your favorite 30-second snippet from the track, and you’re good to go. People visiting your profile will see your chosen song in your bio and can listen to your chosen song using the play button.

It would be nice if Instagram allowed you to autoplay a track like Myspace did. But hey, Instagram doesn’t have to steal everything they do.

How to install a song on your Instagram page

While it’s not entirely obvious how to add a song to your profile, it’s not difficult. To get started, go to your profile and select “Edit Profile” . Click Add Music to Your Profile next to Music, then click Choose a Song for Your Profile . Instagram will suggest songs for you to choose from based on your previous activity, but you can also search for any song you want. If it’s on Instagram, tap the song to select it.

From here, you can select a 30-second sample to play on your profile. Use the slider to move through the song, and Instagram will automatically play the selected song so you can preview it. Depending on the track, the song may suggest moments that Instagram says make the best 30-second snippets. Regarding my choice of ” 3D Country ” by Geese, Instagram suggests three things for me to use. But ultimately you can choose any segment you want.

When you’re happy with your selection, click Done .

You can repeat the process to delete a track: Go to your profile, click Edit Profile , then click Music to find the song you want. Just click “Delete” and Instagram will remove the track from your page.

You can also delete a track from the profile itself. Go to your profile, tap a song, then select Remove song from profile . You’ll also see an option to Edit Profile Song if you want to replace it with something else, or View Audio Page to see the full song in your Instagram library.
