Apple Intelligence Is Late

As iOS 18 enters public beta , its main feature, Apple Intelligence , is delayed. While Apple has said it doesn’t expect this to happen until the fall, reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman say it will happen later than the company expected.

This is just a slight delay and the AI will be pushed back from September to October. With this comes also more precise information about when to expect iOS 18 itself, with iOS 18 pegged for September and iOS 18.1, which will include Apple Intelligence, scheduled for next month.

Gurman also said that developers will have access to Apple Intelligence this week for testing, so the behind-the-scenes schedule is still moving smoothly. It’s unclear if this means you’ll be able to access an early version of Apple Intelligence in the iOS 18 developer beta .

This news follows a previous report from Gurman , which stated that Apple would not be releasing Apple Intelligence right away. Instead, the company will delay the release of its AI. iOS 18.1 should feature various AI summaries, as well as image generation and custom AI emoji (or “Genmoji” as Apple calls them). These features will follow some AI-related features already in the iOS 18 beta, including voice note transcription . These features are not part of Apple Intelligence, so they should be in iOS 18 when it launches in September.

Perhaps the biggest delay will be the new AI-powered Siri, which Gurman says won’t arrive until spring 2025. Once these features arrive, Siri will be able to act with much more context, using your activity along with data from multiple sources. apps to help you answer questions and complete tasks. For example, you can text someone about Deadpool and Wolverine , then ask Siri “when is it on,” and the assistant will automatically figure out which movie you’re talking about.

Even when Apple Intelligence launches, it will only be in beta and will only be available in English. Given the disastrous launch of Google’s AI Reviews and the disastrous launch of Microsoft’s Reviews , it’s understandable why Apple wants to take things slow and gradual.
